How Often do i need to shower My 8week old German Shepherd Puppy? One a week every week? Or what?

  1. A dog really only needs a bath once a month. If you bathe them too often you'll dry out their skin. Puppies tend to get messy more often than adult dogs. I suggest baby wipes for those in between bath times.
  2. If he's dirty, or smells, wash him. Otherwise, he doesn't need it.
  3. very little and when done, with patience and treats and firmness. I would do the first bath soon and then maybe a month later... but do not wash down to the skin. Just the surface fur right now. You also may want to add a little fish oil to the diet when you bath. Remember, the more fun it is the less likely he is to want to do it.
  4. Dogs only need a bath about once a month and even less in the winter (if you live somewhere where it gets cold) as the skin dries out even more in cold weather and they are outside less when it's cold out. Baby/puppy/kitty wipes work well for getting rid of a little dirt here and there. Our trainer also recommended giving our pup half a sardine packed in olive oil once a day to keep oil in his skin and coat.
  5. With the puppy being so young you are going to notice dry flakes ( dandruff ) which is normal for his age .8 weeks ago he was living water , now he is in a dry house with the furnace on , it is just like with a newborn baby. He only needs a bath every 4- 6 wks , do not add oils to his diet at 8 weeks you will cause diarrhea which can lead to alot of other health problems . A good puppy food and a vitamin everyday with a 4-6 week bath you will have an awesome puppy . If you find you are getting so many different answers ask your vet for their opinion . Good luck to you and your new puppy
  6. Not before it's 20 years old. If a puppy's coat smells, find out WHY it smells. If it has a yeast growth or some skin complaint, you need to TREAT that appropriately, not just drown the coat under a shower! If he/she rolled in something disgusting, soak an old towel in disinfectant and rub him/her briskly with that, then keep him/her warm until the coat has completely dried out. Except for unfortunate things like a a case of mange, a puppy should NEVER be soaked to the skin. At 8 weeks old it barely has ANY coat, just puppy fluff. It won't start to show any of its adult coat until about 16 weeks old. The normal grooming care for a GSD is brushing, done at least once a week. A wire-bristled brush can be used for adults, but only a hair-bristled brush for puppies. A show-dog gets periodically shampooed, but the show-ring is not the place for a GSD - if it is a correct GSD it has an all-weather coat. Shampooing removes the oils that MAKE it weather-proof - the result is an untypically soft fluffy coat. The correct coat for an adult is hard, harsh-to-the-touch, and lying flat against the body. My GSDs will sleep out in the rain until the drops get heavy enough to wake them. My neutered male had NEVER been bathed until he developed a yeast infection at 3 or 4 years old. I had to strain to get all of him into the bath, first time. Second time, he hopped in of his own accord, before I had collected the shampoo, so he got out, waited for me to come back, then hopped in again of his own accord. But GSDs do often show their intelligence. (I guess my 13½ years, 11, and 7½ years bitches lack intelligence - mind you, I doubt any of them has had more than 2 baths in her life.) Remind me to NOT go to "tracy6p"s veterinarian, based on her own advice! The only part I almost agree with is not adding oils to the diet. Feed a proper diet, one appropriate to carnivores, and no additives are necessary, apart from cooked table scraps now & then. And yes, an 8 weeks old puppy CAN eat raw meat - mine are chomping up chunks by about 6 weeks old; it's excellent exercise for the cheek muscles that erect the ears, keeps the teeth cleaned, and slows the speed with which food reaches the stomach. 7. I take my dogs to the groomer every other month. unless they get dirty(they are indoor dogs but occasionally like to get in the mud when going potty or for a walk!)in between i brush and brush.I started taking mine to the groomer at 5 months old before that they didnt really need it.Good Luck!
