Can german shepherd puppies have spotted tongues?

Public Comments

  1. yes it is perfecly normal
  2. Yes some pure bred dogs have a dark pigment to their tongues. One of my Golden does (the guy in the picture) and one doesn't. It doesn't mean they are not pure bred dogs or pups.
  3. Many do, but it is because an unscupulous breeder way back in the fray let a chow breed in and yet called the puppies german shepherds. The same thing has happened in labs and goldens. In Chihuahuas the merle gene has been bred into "purebred" dogs within the last 10 years or so. That simply means an unscrupulous breeder lied somewhere and used a doxie to inbreed the gene yet lied and called the offspring purebred. So yes they can, but it was not originally in the shepherd breed. Somehow some extra genes got introduced in the breed 15-20 years ago that caused blue spots on tongues.
  4. Yes! Many Breeds do.
