  1. some are show quality and some are pet quality..
  2. probably some have the akc papers and some dont.
  3. Quality of the line.
  4. I would assume the most expensive ones are AKC quality, while the cheaper ones are just regular pets.
  5. Some are bred by reputable breeders...others by BYB and puppy mills who produce tons of unhealthy puppies, don't take care of the parents, and then sell their puppies fairly cheaply.
  6. i think it also depends on the breeder, or where you might get it from....
  7. usually the more you pay the better they are German Shepards are a very popualar breed and most are in bred and have more on a chance in health problems allways buy from good breeder and watch for in breding temperment problems and recordes of hip displasia
  8. The less expensive ones are most likely bred by backyard breeders who do not screen their breeding stock for health issues, do not strive to breed to the breed standard and just toss any two dogs of the same breed together and do not offer any type of guarantee. The more expensive ones are bred by responsible breeders from health checked clear parents. They are usually sold with a guarantee. You pay for what you get.
  9. german shepherd puppies extremely cute ! well the lower prices actually stand for pure bred the higher are puppies with show dog quallities , quality or the line or there registered in the AKC remember the beautiful german shepherd is extremely athletic , take good care of these beautiful dogs ! i know you'll be a good owner and yes the cheaper ones look exactly like the purbred one they are mostly backyard breeders the only difference is that the dogs are not of that high quality ! good luck ! hope i helped
  10. My area they go up to $2,500 the prices reflect (in most not all) good breeding and show lines. Make sure Hips, eys, Elbows are checked and xrayed, first exam, vaccinations, worming started, health guarantee contract, and some want a contract on spay/neuter and no allow to breed. EDIT The cheaper it is the higher the chance for health problems, temperment troubles, yes they are still a shepherd just in most cases not a high quality breed one....
  11. pure breeds cost more and mixes cost less and depends on owner, place where there being sold etc.... best to go to the pound, if anything those dogs need good homes
  12. Purebred and slightly mixed pups do look the same. I have a purebred German Shepherd (his mom and dad were both from Germany) and he was $500 and he's AKC registered. It just depends on the bloodline as to what the prices are.
  13. Depends on the breeder and the bloodline, but if you are looking to buy a German Shepherd, I suggest you check your local animal shelter or breed rescues first! Over 1/4 of all animals in your local shelter are purebred, and breed rescues specialize in specific breeds so if you check with a German Shepherd Rescue, they can put you on a list for a puppy and then you would be saving a life as well as getting a new best friend. Plus, it would be WAY! cheaper than purchasing from a breeder.
  14. it all depends on the "family tree". Some have show dog in their bloodline. some are from a different country and are pure breds. We have really good clients at the clinic, they bought two german sheps from Chech-a-slavocia(not sure how to spell it) but they are breeding them and they sell them over $1200 because they are pure bred and they also have show dog blood lines.
  15. I depends on the Breeder. Some breeders do extensive health testing of the parents and the puppies. They also may do temperament testing and have the litter professionally analyzed for show potential puppies. Plus high quality foods, worming, vaccinations, vet checks, registration fees... the costs all add up. They may have put hundreds of dollars into raising the puppies before they are ever offered for sale. Then you have the guy down the street who puts his 2 dogs together, produces some cute puppies, feeds them some discount brand puppy food and can make a profit by charging only $350 a pup.
  16. Some are sold at pet stores, which may make them cheaper. Please, NEVER NEVER NEVER buy one from a pet store. Please research puppy mills and their connections with pet stores. Backyard breeders are about as bad. Most dogs never become show quality. The show quality puppy will probably be more expensive, if the breeder knows their puppies. Please, only get a dog from a shelter or reputable breeder.
  17. look at the pedigrees, check to see if they x-ray certify hips and elbows or if they offer health guarantees. If they do, the breeder has probably got written contracts and is very careful where and who they place puppies with. The breeder who cares about the German Shepherd standard will breed dogs that they think will produce as close to the standard as they can get. If a breeder is interested in breeding a quality dog, it can cost up to 3,000.00 to 6,000.00 just to get the litter on the ground. The female has to be a quality girl who has been taken care of for 2 yrs, been proven to win in the ring, hips and elbows x-rayed and the same for the male and the same goes for the parents, grandparents on back to the great great great great great grandparents. I back my puppies for life and have taken back dogs at the age of 10 because of circumstances beyond the owners control. I breed for temperament and structure. And if I do one litter every 1-3 yrs that is a lot for me. I sell my pups at 1,000.00 to be spayed or neutered and 1500.00 -2500.00 for a dog that you can breed or show in conformation. If you would like a pup for 350.00-400.00 and don't care if they are champion sired or have written contracts and guarantees, you may get a good pup, you just take your chances, you don't know what kind of heritage or temperament they come from. If that is your goal, that is fine, but even better would be if you would rescue from German Shepherd Rescue. My pups are well socialized, vaccinated, wormed and matched to your family lifestyle and personality. You should consider this: the price of the dog is only the first cost you incur. If you have an unhealthy dog the cost is the same, but you might not get a person who sold you a 300.00 dog to back their dog, but I back mine for life. I know the health history of my dogs and I guarantee your puppy will be healthy. There are always people out there who will breed the heck out of their dogs and sell them cheap. If cost is your main concern, remember this is a case of: you get what you pay for.
