Do German Shepherd puppies eventually "fill out"?

I have been searching for a GS Pup for a long time. I have been offered a beautiful 7 month old but she seems a little skinny. Not malnourished skinny, just not that strong muscular shepherd look. At what age do they fill out?

  1. You can expect any puppy to fill out between 11/2 and 2 y/o. 7m/o puppys are still very lanky. And clumbsy. All legs and head.
  2. Around 2 years old they will fill out. They are pretty lanky until then.
  3. it depends on the quality of the bloodline and how fast the bloodline matures. See the parents, and grand parents if possible, buy from a real breeder, not someone who just has them..... They are not a stocky dog to begin with but they should have some substance to them, at 7 months she should not be heavy, they fill out the second and third year....first year up to 18 months they grow up, second and third they grow out (weight).
  4. they are still growing until 18-24 months- The muscle will come with regular exercise, but that awkward gangly look sticks around for a while.
  5. Most bigger breeds of dogs look very gangly around this age--all long legs/skinny/big head--they do fill out with age. It is usually around 2 yrs that they will have filled out.
  6. They do not finish growing until they are between two and two and a half years old, by this time they will have finished filling out and mature. They will get to just about their adult height by one year of age but will still put on weight. At seven months they should look thin and awkward.
  7. My Baby Kain is 1 year 8 months old. He was 87lbs at his last check up and I thought he looked ribby. His vet was happy to see him "thin" and told me he should start really filling out this fall and winter. http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa265/dionannan/6-4-2006-10.jpg
  8. I think about 2 years is right. Mine wasn't full bred but she was still all legs until about a year old. She's run and trip most times, cuz she'd forget how long her legs were. She had a short coat though so when she was full grown she still looked skinny and had a "model" pyshique. I think it depends on the thickness of the coat too.
