Cross Breeds

Is there some sort of "growth chart" for German Shepherd puppies?

Just want to make sure that ours is doing ok. Obviously she goes to the vet regularly, but I want to check in the meantime. She is 15 weeks. She weighs 12kg (26.5 lb) and she is a purebred girl.

  1. Is it full blooded german shepherd? My latest dog (now about 10 months) is a german shepherd mix who the vet thought would get to about 100lbs, well he's stopped growing and is barely pushing 50lbs. A good indication is to look at how big her parents are/were. Remember that females will be smaller than males. How much does she weight now? As long as you are feeding a high quality puppy food she'll do fine. Glad to hear she's getting her required vet visits.
  2. The best idea of if she is putting on enough weight to meet her growing body is to check the area around her ribs. If you can see or feel bone, then she's probably too thin. The best is if you can feel a layer of fat ontop of the bone. If you can't feel the bones at all, that's probably ok for now too, but make sure she doesn't stay chubby!
  3. well German Shepards should go up to be pretty big and i don't think that there is a growth chart for German Shepperds, but she will be fine. there is no such thing as growth hormone defiency for dogs.
  4. GSDs tend to grow in different stages, height then weight then height or the other way round, she wont be at her full size until 10 -12 months so if she is not showing any signs of illness and you have her regularly check by the vet there shouldn't be any reason why she is not growing properly. Good luck!!
  5. GSD'S do grow at different rates. My first was a rescue and topped out at 60lbs. My jet is currently 1.5 years and 110 lbs. His father was 130 lbs and mother was 100 ;lbs. Vet says he will grow until hes 3 years old.
  6. Go to www.mygermanshepherdpuppy.com and it has weight and height charts. good luck!
