Do they do something to a German Shepherd puppies ears?
To make them stand up when they are older? Or do their ears naturally do this as they grow? If they "clip" them, at what age do they do this?

- No, they naturally stand up with age. We have two that have that little "perk" naturally.
- No, they don't do anything.
- german shepherd ears are natural... they stand on their own.
- Not German Shepards ears just do that nautrally. When they are puppies they usually fall over just becase they are too big for they to keep supports but as they grow and their head grows bigger they stand up by them selves.
- No, they stand up on their own. It's good to give vitamins with calcium, it helps them stand up quicker.
- German Shepherds ears naturally stand up with age. By the time the dog is a year old they should be nice and perked up.
- GSDs have ears that will naturally stand starting at about 5 mo old. They don't have cropped ears. Every now and then you'll have a dog that one or both ears just won't stand. This is a conformation fault - but they still make excellent working dogs and pets! There are also taping techniques and inserts to get a pups ears to stand.
- German Shepards ears will stand erect on their own so there is no need to have them clipped. They will start to stand around the 3 month mark with some flucuation here and there depending on the dog. Don't get worried if one stands and the other still flops and then they changed sides-it's normal for any breed that has erect ears. I have a pit/shepard/lab mix and her ears stood at about 3 1/2 months with one flopping, then both up then they switched sides and one flopped again-they are both up now and proud as the sunshine.
- No nothing is done to a German Shepherd. When it is about 4 months old his ears will start to stand up. sometimes one before the other. Do not feel disappointed if it falls down after it stands up. Sometimes only the tip falls down. This is all normal. They will keep alternating positions till finally they stand up. If it is a pedigree they tattoo its ear with numbers indicating a serial number of its family. Its breeder should do this.
- Some people "tape" them up like a cast so the cartilage doesn't "break". Typically, their ears stand up on their own. However, a lot of "rough housing" as young pups "break" their ears so they won't stand up.
- Hi, no german shepherds ears are natural and you will notice for the first 6 months the puppies ears will go up and down alot. but you don't have to do anything to them..
- Don't clip them, they'll stand on their own - it may just take some time, my GSD'd ears took 9 months for both to stand up.
- A German Shepherd's ears should stand erect naturally. From the AKC Standard: Ears are moderately pointed, in proportion to the skull, open toward the front, and carried erect when at attention, the ideal carriage being one in which the center lines of the ears, viewed from the front, are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the ground. A dog with cropped or hanging ears must be disqualified.
