How much do I feed 4 week old german shepherd puppies?
I know this is a stupid question and I am truly embarassed to ask the vet when we go. But mom does not feed them only once a day now (teeth hurt ouch). So I have been supplementing as instructed by my vet. But how many times a day should I be feeding them. I have been feeding them 4 times a day and mom feeds them once sometimes twice, Frankly they are huge! Oh yes I have been feeding them puppy formula and puppy food thick paste like consistency.

- ask a pet shop they know.
- Every 3-4 hours, in addition to what they are getting from momma. 4 weeks is the age you should start offering solid food - use dry kibble and wet it with warm water, sort of mushy; a pie pan works great to feed off of, esp if there are several. I see no reason why it should embarrass you to question the vet about the quantity of solid food and the frequency of feedings.
- i think your doing fine, just try to get them on dry food, get some dry food and put some water on it that will make it nice and soft for your puppies to eat, either way tell your vet im sure you want your puppies to grow strong and healthy!
- They should be nursing from mommie at 4 weeks and not taken away from her any earlier than 8 weeks. Soft food 5-6 times a day.
- 4 times a day is very good and with mom helping out too. I think you could start giving them moistened kibble now as well. They need to start eating solid food. We also feed cottage cheese and shredded wheat crumbled. Our GSD had 12 puppies and so we had to help from day one. Once they were eating we feed 4 times a day as well and they all grew up to be healthy happy dogs. Sounds like you're doing a great job, All the best;^)
- feeding puppys
- 3 to 4 times a day is fine. It's great that they are so big, growing puppies need lots of food. As long as they are happy, healthy, and growing, FEED as much as they will eat per meal. and Don't be embarrassed about asking your vet- that's what they are there for. Since they have those nice sharp puppy teeth, you can cut back a bit on the thick paste like consistency- give them something to chew on, but not too much too soon.
