- No.
- Are you a vetererian?? If not, NO!
- If you need to ask this then I suggest that you do not
- ew. No.
- You could but its better to take them to a vet since these are medical procedures.
- NO!!! You need to go to the vet. They should have been seen by the vet anyway for a checkup ASAP!
- PERFORMING SURGERY ON AN ANIMAL IF UR NOT A VET IS ANIMAL CRUELTY. U DON'T KNOW THE RISKS INVOLVED AND THE PAIN AND AGONY U COULD PUT UR PET THROUGH. WOULD U WANT SURGERY PERFORMED ON U AT HOME BY SOMEONE WHO'S NOT A DOCTOR. IT'S ABSURD. IF U CAN'T AFFORD TO TAKE HIM TO THE VET THEN DON'T BOTHER. IT'S NOT LIKE THEY'LL DIE IF U DON'T HAVE THE TAILS DOCKED.
- No, you cannot do either of those procedures at home.
- No there's no way you can do any of those procedures in a humane way without a vet. I worked at a vet for 2years and I assisted in docking the tails of puppies and let me tell you...if you ever see it you would NEVER do it to your pups. They don't anesthesia because there aren't suppose to be many nerve ending in the tails when they are just born. Well, the cry that I have heard from the pups will forever haunt me. I wouldn't do it at all but if you are going to..go to a vet.
- Oh Dear Lord, NO you can't do it at home. You need special instruments and an extreme sterile environment. If you bred the pups to sell.... you would only proceed to de-value them. What if there were uncontrollable bleeding?:??? do you know how to handle that? My advice to you is to either take them to the vet to have it done professionally.... or let the new owners (if you plan to sell them) get it done if you can't afford it. Also... why would you want to do it yourself??? If it only to save money... you should NOT be breeding dogs. Would you do your own child's circumcision just because you thought you could do it yourself??? I think not. Think of the dogs as your own family member... take them to someone that can maintain low probabilty of infections and do it RIGHT!!!
- Yes, you can do this with out taking them to the Vet. But since you have never done this before I would highly recommend going to the vet with the puppies. Or finding a experienced breeder who does their own docking and dew removal and ask for their help. There are complications that can occur when doing these things and you need to know how to handle them you also need to know how to dock a tail and how to remove the dew claws. For your first time please spend the money and bring them to a Vet. You can also do all of the puppies vaccinations your self except for there Rabies vaccination. that one they need to go to the Vet for. Good luck
- There is NOTHING worse than butchering an animal for esthetic reasons... Cropping of ears, removal of dewclaws, or docking of tails should be done by veterinarians, if the procedures are to be done at all... At least they have the means to reduce the pain inflicted on the tiny animals... It's a cruel and draconian practice, not recommended at all, but if you're intent on having these procedures performed, please consult with professionals. Best wishes, TM
- I'd say you could dock the tail, but the dew claw is a different matter. Also, in order to dock the tail, you need to know about where to whack. I docked poodle tails before, right after they were borned, with a pair of real sharp scissors that had been held over an open-flame til it turned black. Then, hold the tail out, with the scissors in position (but not touching), & when you clip, do it fast. You'll hear a little yelp, & that's all. The scissors has to be sharp with the blades dis-infected by the open-flame, & you have to cut fast & firm. The reason you don't have the scissors touching the tail, is that the blades will be hot. It's best if you have someone else to hold the tail, so you can concentrate on what you have to do. I did this, with the first litter; the 2nd litter, I took to the Vet & watched as he literally tortured the pup by putting some sort of a string on the tail & twisting; so, I decided not to let the dog have a 3rd litter, cause it takes a lot of guts to do it oneself. Just remember that you have to cut swiftly, but you need to find out just about WHERE you need to cut, on the tail.
- It's not that hard to dock tails, if you know what you're doing. The problem is, you don't. And if you make a mistake, it won't be easily fixed. As to the dew claws, again, is easily done, but if you don't know what you are doing, can be terribly messed up. These aren't procedures that can be explained in writing, but rather something you have to see to learn.
