  1. Usually between 8-9 weeks of age. Some vets will crop them up until 12 weeks of age.
  2. If you show, then you will know this. If you don't show, why do it?? Boxers are sooooo adorable with those floppy ears. You don't see Labs and hounds with cropped ears, do you? It's not really needed... just educate yourself on how to clean them.
  3. Absolute rubbish about the ear infections! It is a barbaric practice and some dogs never get over it! The though of it turns my stomache! I have a Cane Corso, a breed whose ears are normally mutilated in this way - I would never dream of putting her through it, especially for purely cosmetic reasons!
  4. i dont agree with this! Spaniels always get ear infections and things - all you need to do is pay for vet treatments and put drops in there ears! I dont think chopping there ears off makes any sense or tails for that matter! When you were born what if your mum thought he would look better in public with smaller ears and then cut your lobes off!
  5. As you can see , ear cropping is pretty controversial and you will get a lot of opinions. With that said, I have seen a countless number of ear crops. I can tell you that most of them caused pain and discomfort for the animal in question. From a medical standpoint, the complications outweigh any medical benefit (perceived or otherwise). IMVHO, it is strictly for aesthetics (and I personally like the floppy ears better).
  6. The newest thinking, even for show dogs, is that ears and tails should not be cropped. For some breeds, there are changes in the works that will remove the requirement of cropping from breed standards. If you are not going to show your dog, don't crop the poor thing's ears. It hurts. Cropping is NOT for preventing infection or anything else, it is purely for looks -- a look that the breed's founders were not able to breed into the genes. If you are going to show him, ask the breeder you got him from about when AND WHERE to get the ears cropped. But first, get a couple of second and third opinions on whether or not your boxer is in fact show quality.
  7. Do you plan on showing your dog? If not, leave them the way they are.. my neighbors boxers ears are not cropped, and he looks adorable.. and, I don't know where you got the whole eat infection thing from, but that is NOT true at all.
  8. They need to be done before the age of 16 weeks...if your Boxer is indeed show quality and was sold as show potential the ears would already have been cropped by the breeder unless the breeder prefers to show natural (which by the way more and more show breeders are doing). It is also very difficult to find a vet that does cropping let alone a vet that can do a nice show crop. Also just because ears are cropped doesn't mean they will stand. It takes weeks to months of taping and care and then there is no guarantee. It is not necassary to crop ears to show.many natural ear Boxers (as well as other traditionally cropped breeds) are doing very well in the show ring and are getting theri championships. Also be advised ear cropping does NOT prevent ear infections..that is an old wives tale.
