Cross Breeds

When do you take boxer puppies to the vet when they are first born?

When do you get their tails docked, dew claws removed, first shots, etc? Im thinking this should be done within 48 hours of birth but want to be sure.

  1. You should do the tails if you are a Boxer breeder. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, yes, get them to the vet asap. They might do it within 48 hours of birth, but dews will be done later and shots wont start till 6 weeks of age.
  2. 6 weeks is their first vet check. call your vet regarding dew claws, tails, etc. I believe it is done after their first vet check, to be sure they are healthy enough and old enough for this kind of procedure. you do not do these kinds of procedures after only 48 hours of birth. they are way too young. call your vet, and get educated with your dogs and pups....
  3. Mother and pups should have checkup as soon as you think she is done whelping to make sure the mother has expelled everything inside., the pups to check for cleft palate, or any deformaties. Pups should return days2-3 for dewclaw removal, and tails if you insist on doing them.
  4. They should be docked / have dew claws removed at 2 or 3 days at the very most. Their first shots will be around 7 weeks.
  5. Get it done as soon as possible, it can be very traumatic for dogs when they are older to get their tails docked ect.....and when they are older...they chew. I had called my vet and he said to bring them in asap. I took my doberman pups to the vet within 48 hours , dewclaws, ears and tails done. So yes....early is better!
  6. anywhere between 2-3 days old is recommended but if you have to be on here asking questions about taking care pf puppies when they are first born you have no business breeding dogs! If you are going to be a breeder you need to find out all of the information before you let the dogs mate.
  7. tails need doc with in 5 days, dew claws with in a week also .shots at 6 weeks and wormer at 6wks
  8. Tails and dew claws are done at 2-3 days. I start my shot regime at 6 weeks. They also need to be wormed . Good luck with the new baby's!
  9. Im not sure about the tail docking, but... Dewclaws need to be removed within 3-5 days (anytime after that, they cant be unless they're put under). First shots at 7-8 weeks, no earlier. The mom should be vet checked within 24 hours of delivering the last pup. The pups can be vet checked with the mom or when they get their dewclaws removed.
  10. Dewclaws and tails should be done at the latest 5 days. First vaccines can be done at 6 weeks. If the dogs aren't going to be shown, there is no medical reason to dock the tails. It's done without anesthesia and yes, it hurts. As for the dewclaws, there's a slight chance of them getting caught on something later on and tearing, but that's pretty rare in my experience.
  11. At two to three days.
