I have a litter of boxer puppies due in a couple of weeks. Any suggestions?
I was wondering of any tips that anyone might have on anything to do with a litter of puppies. My vet told me a lot but there are always tips that people have. Please no remarks regarding getting my dog fixed. I adopted this dog pregnant and she will be fixed.

- have the tails and dewclaws done within the first week.. interview prospective owners, make appts to have eyes checked, wormed and first shots BEFORE adopting them out.. and consider this an expensive lesson.. should have spayed/abort
- boxer puppies?how cute!! they are very friendly . look after them well and giv them love and affection.
- You could try to find homes for the puppys friends, or fmily may want them. Or you can keep like two so your dog has a companion but that are also her pups.
- 1). Find a good emergency vet-you never know what'll happen during whelping. Put the number up on your fridge. 2). Make sure mom has a private place that she's comfortable in to have her pups. 3). (if you haven't already) get mom x-rayed/ultrasound to determine how many pups there are, so you know what to expect. 4). Start screening prospective homes, it can take awhile to find good ones! 5). Load mom up on quality food so she can take care of all of the pups properly. 6). Call around to local vet clinics and see if any are willing to give you a "group discount" for getting mom and babies altered and vaccinated.
- I just have praise for you. Taking in a pregnant dog and then planning on getting her fixed. I appreciate that. Only suggestion. make sure you give themn to loving stable homes:)
- well make sure you have an area where the dog can be with her puppies when they are born.. like a nest. You should have an area seperate from the house and kids ( your dog might bite them if they get too close to puppies) and put a few blankets down and maybe a few wooden boards to keep it enclosed. Thats what i did for my dog when she had her puppies.
- 1) Thank you for adopting a dog 2) THANK YOU for adopting a pregnant dog. 3) Thank you for planning on getting her fixed. As far as what to do with the puppies, I would see if there are any boxer rescues in your area where you could list them when they are of age to be adopted out. If not try a general dog rescue. Please do research and make sure it is a reputable rescue first though! You seem intelligent enough to know NOT to list them in the paper as "free" or just give them away to just anybody. A rescue (if it is legit) will do a "background" check on any prospective adopter including calling their present vet, and will also do a home visit before approving them of adopting anything. Puppies get adopted VERY quickly so I am sure it won't be a long term problem, ESPECIALLY if they are purebred boxers.
- Whelping box with a pig rail, lots of newspapers and towels, scissors, syringe, Tel # to vet, paper and pen for recording, baby scale, puppy replacement milk just in case, bottles, different colors of ric-rac for collars of identification, space heater if needed, count placentas, check for cleft palllets, take mom to Vet within 24 hours of whelping, make appt. for tails and dews if you choose to have that done, thermometor to monitor mom's temp before whelping..........lots and lots of sleep! Good luck
- I second Battathang... I also starred this in hopes that anyone else having a litter will see, read and take note.
- OK i have a litter at the moment 4days old :D its really hard work but very rewarding!! You will need to prepare a whelping box for her preferably with pig rails to stop her from lying on the pups it should be in quiet area warm and dry. If you haven't already you should now switch her to a high quality puppy food she will need the extra calories you should keep her on this until she has finished nursing and maybe a few weeks after to build her back up!! Also these items will come in handy too some dental floss to tie of umbilical cords, tcp disinfectant or iodine' some surgical gloves, some clean dry towels (you can cut up an old one a few times),a sharp scissors, a note pad and paper, a food weighing scales and some newspapers. My best advice though is to try and have a friend with you when she starts delivering one preferably with some whelping experience call your vet and make sure they will be available in case anything goes wrong try this website its very help full www.dogbreedinfo.com/whelping.htm
- Keep the puppies warm after birth they can't control their own temp. Good luck and congrats!!
- i hope you were feeding the mum to be puppy food and formula while she is pregnant its important to do so enjoy the litter
- No don't get them fixed. What state are you in? If you are in one close to New Jersey then give me the tiniest girl.If you don't give them away then take good care of them and if I don't get one and you are giving them away then make sure they go to a nice person.
