Yorkie Breeders: How many puppies did your Yorkie have?
My yorkie is less than 4 lbs, and I think she is pregnant, in the breeding process, how many dogs would you think she could have

- okay do the world a favor and get your dog fixed. All we need is more dogs being bought from backyard breeders that will have puppies and they will all end up at a shelter or rescue. Small dogs tend to have lots of problems during preg. she will more than likely have a very small litter (1-2). Shame on you for adding to the millions of dogs that are euthanized each year. (1/4 of which being purebred!!!)
- At our clinic we have 2 Yorkshire Terrier breeders, they are both wonderful people, highly respectable and responsible, and do everything the "right" way. With that said, 7 times out of 10 their b*tches need Cesarean Sections. Unfortunately, Yorkie's are one of those breeds who commonly need C-Sections. The smallest litter they have had was one pup and the largest has been 5. I hope you have done your homework!! There is a sure lot to know about labor, whelping, etc. I wish you the best of luck!
- my aunts dog just had a littler of yorkies (10 weeks ago now) and she had 5 but only 4 made it one was stillborn. the vet says that is a big litter , but if you really want to know you can take thee dog to the vet after i think its 6 weeks..and they will x-ray the mama and tell you how many she has in there. dont buy from puppy mills or pet shops dont buy from backyard breeders...some of you people make no sense, someone asks a simple question about breeding a dog and all you can do is chastize them for breeding when you have no clue as to whats going on outside of the question asked. some of you need to get off your high horses and stop imposing your unwanted opinions on others and answer the questions asked or move on to the next one.
- I had a female Yorkie and on her first litter she delivered 7 pups, very small and she only weighs 4 lbs. herself. Most Yorkies will deliver at least 3 to 4 pups.
- It would be extremely irresponsible for anyone, especially a "breeder" to tell you how many pups your dog may have without even seeing your dog. There are so many things to take into consideration. First, how old is she? How many times was she bred? How many pups were in each of her mother's litters? How about both her grandmothers' litters? Genetics plays the biggest part in this. The best thing that you can do is take her into the vet and have an ultrasound (or x-ray if she is far enough along) done. This will give a definitive answer on how many puppies she is carrying and if there may be a problem. Small breeds usually carry small litters, however, my Shih Tzu has had a litter of 9 and a second litter of 7, so you can never really tell until the x-ray or ultrasound is done.
- hello my yorkie (weight 6.5lbs) had 4 total (3 males 1 female) the female didn't get enough calcium and did not form all the way so i was in the process of putting her down.(better then keeping a dog alive that i was told would would have suffered) and it died before it could even put her down. good luck and i hope you have a tough stomach when she eats the afterbirth after every puppy..(i about threw up and i am a certified nursing assistant i though it would be a piece of cake compared to what i am use to seeing.)
