Are the Yorkie Puppies Priced Right?

There are these cute Yorkie puppies, thier seven weeks old, dad is a toy & mom is a regular size. The lady says she's not in it for the money but wants $500 for one. She says that they ususally run about $800+. Are these puppies a little overpriced or is it just me? *if you bought one you wouldn't even know how big it would get* shouldn't that dock off some of the price?

  1. That is actually really cheap. They are usually closer to $1200.
  2. That is a very fair price for healthy Yorkie puppies. The key word being ' healthy'.. You won't be likely to find any for less. According to AKC breed standard for Yorkshire terriers> Weight Must not exceed seven pounds. << So a 'regualr' sized one is still very small.. Any Yorkie is considered a toy, as that is the name of their AKC group> http://www.akc.org/breeds/yorkshire_terrier/index.cfm
  3. 500 is a good price. my old neighbor had one and paid i think 100o for her. very cute dog
  4. I see Yorkies in my area easily over a grand. This is southern cali, of course. 800 is a good price by my standards. $500 is a steal.
  5. i think all purebreeds are overpriced. I would understand if they ask for 500 or so, but 1000? some even go up to 2000 depends on the breed and how rare it is...Sometimes its the breeder it self and greed. Some breeders jus breed for the moeny like petshops and puppy mills....thats why you should always check the breeders background and how often they breed. I got my Lhasa apso from a breeder who has dogs that jus goes in there own free will, and the dogs are separated to prevent inbreeding. She was about 600 dollars. I was gonna get a yorkie but they are prone to biting small kids, and i have kids in my family. sooo they were out... i hope the best to you
  6. adopt a homeless dog instead of paying for a little dog that doesn't really have a purpose!!!! I'm not against pure bred dogs that DO something like border colllies and live stock guardian breeds, but it would be so much better to adopt a dog that would otherwise be killed!!!
  7. Actually, to tell you the truth I studied pre-vet medicine and also am a vet tech so I am coming with some background in this information I am providing - there is no such thing as a toy or regular sized yorkie. It is a gimmick that some bad breeders try to sell people that don't know about breeds. Yorkies are yorkies. Sometimes you will hear about teacup sizes also, that just means that they aren't breed correctly. So, with that in mind, I would say the price is a little high. The breeder doesn't sound like a good one either since she is saying that usual yorkies are more but for a special price you can get hers cheaper. Strange! I would not buy from this breeder, if it were my money and choice. I would never pay over $500 in large cities such as New York, LA, or Chicago however in any other city I would pay much less. Yorkies are a very common breed, therefore they aren't as expense as say a cavalier king charles spaniel. I would look for another breeder. If you decide to go with this breeder, I would make sure that I see the father and mother to make sure that she is telling the truth about the sizes. If the mother isn't availble, don't waste your money! Good Luck!
  8. do not buy one from that woman they r way over priced. and u dont know the parents history. u need to find a good breeder that is not overpricing the dogs and knows the history of the parents and is willing to share it with u
  9. Jessica, buy one, or two at this price! Be sure to check their attitudes and health, but definitely a steal for these babies. Be sure to get the one (or two) that you chose alone to check for temperment. They need to be responsive and playful, not shy and timid. Also, check if the seller has papers...just to make sure you aren't getting something crazy; like a Lhasa/Yorkie mix for $500.
  10. That's actually a really good price, my Yorkie was $800 and the seller wasn't willing to go any lower. I've seen regulars to go as high as $1,500 and teacups as high as $3,000. And seeing as the father was a teacup and the mom a regular that's a great price, they shouldn't get anymore than 5/6 lbs.
  11. At no point did I hear you mention AKC registered? Do these pups come registered with a health guarantee? If not 500 is too much. However, If they are registered 500 is a fair price.
  12. that is really cheap we looked at one and the lady wanted 1500 for it
  13. A lot depends on whether the pup is "show" quality or "pet" quality, depending on the bloodlines. Puppies that have been bred from champion bloodlines that have placed in the ring are much more expensive. Show quality dogs can run from $1200-$3000. Pet quality runs from $300-$800 The most important thing is that it's healthy!
