I have an AKC registered yorkie and am thinking of purchasing an APR male. Wondering what the puppies would be

I have an AKC (American Kennel Club) registered female yorkie and am thinking of purchasing an APR(American Pet Registry) registered male yorkie. Wondering what the puppies would be registered as once born?

Public Comments

  1. They could not be akc'd.
  2. You won't be able to register them with a reputable dog registry......AKC will not register them for you at all.
  3. APR. For the pups to be AKC reg the parents both have to be AKC reg. Edit: Peopl she is asking a simple question. Not whether you think she should breed or not. Answer the damn question and keep your other opinions to yourself.
  4. Well, since the APR would register a guinea pig... not the AKC :) Please don't breed. Thousands of yorkies in shelters need homes more than your potential puppies. Let your dogs be happy and live long lives. No need to bring more puppies into the world and put your dogs health at risk.
  5. As the others have said the pups could not be registered AKC. The pup registered APR no doubt came from pet quaility sire and/or dam and were not supposed to be bred. That means in all liklihood the pup is not breeding quality either. If you love him for what he is have both spayed/neutered. If you are just looking to breed look for an AKC registered pup. Of course you will never truly know if they are breeding quality until they have been through their conformation and genetically tested at 2.
  6. http://www.akc.org/reg/index.cfm?nav_area=registration for more information about registration and the guidelines. APR is just that a pet registry there is no proof that the dog is purebred. http://www.aprpets.org/page.php?2 America’s Pet Registry, Inc. (APRI) has evolved from its roots as an insurance agent for the pet industry to become the nation’s only pet registry chartered and supported by the pet industry itself. An international association dedicated to the preservation and promotion of pet ownership and the professional pet industry, APRI is the nation’s only dog and cat pet registry committed to serving the needs of responsible pet owners, breeders, distributors, veterinarians, retailers and pet product manufacturers.
  7. The offspring would half to be registered with APR. The AKC does not see APR as being a reputable dog registry. http://www.akc.org/contact/answer_center/faq_dogreg.cfm This is what its says on the AKC.org Website... (I copied and pasted it.) Some examples of other registries that are not accepted by the AKC are: 1. America’s Pet Registry (APRI) 2. Continental Kennel Club (CKC) 3. Canine Kennel Club (CKC) 4. United All Breed Registry 5. United Kennel Club (except Coonhounds) 6. North American Purebred Dog Registry The AKC and these registries do not follow the same standards and guidelines. Your dog or its subsequent offspring cannot be registered with the American Kennel Club. We encourage you to contact your breeder to determine if it is possible to receive AKC registration papers for your dog. The registration process is described here: http://www.akc.org/reg/registeradog.cfm If your dog is spayed or neutered and you're interested in competing in AKC Companion Events (Obedience, Rally, Agility, Tracking) or Performance Events (Hunt Test, Herding, Lure Coursing, Earthdog etc.) you might want to consider a PAL/ILP number. The Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Privilege (PAL/ILP) is designed to allow dogs that are ineligible for registration, but are distinguishable as a member of an AKC registrable breed, to participate in certain AKC Events. There are a number of reasons a purebred dog would be ineligible for registration or the owner might choose to apply for a PAL/ILP instead of registering the dog. To list a few of the more common ones: * Dog is from a rescue group or shelter * Owner never received papers from the breeder * Incomplete paper work * Owner does not want to pay late fees * Dog registered with another organization ineligible for AKC registration
  8. APR is a scam registry for back yard breeders and puppy millers. AKC wont accept the APR papers.
  9. Mutts- since they would not be registerable with the AKC, because APR is a bogus registry. I would be sincerely worried about ANY dog registered with APR but not AKC.
