Taking Yorkie puppies camping?
My Yorkie just had a litter of puppies they are now two weeks old. When they are four weeks old we will be going camping and we can't find anyone we trust to watch them. Is it safe to take them up to the mountains that young? We're from a small town so our vet doesn't board and we can't leave them at a kennel because they have to have shots first and they are too young for that. They won't have to do any hiking, we drive up the mountain, we have a large cage they would be in. I just worry about it getting too cold or them catching something up there. Yes, we have family here, but they have so many animals that I don't think the mother dog would be comfortable, and their home is not so clean. The puppies could easily catch something. I'm kinda running out of options here.

- i don't think that would be a good idea. i would suggest you board them with your local vet.
- If they are going to have to have to climb take them to a responsible kennel. If they dont have to climb sure why not
- I don't think that's such a good idea. Look for dog-sitting ads in the phonebook?
- We have three Yorkies. They are great dogs but all the books advise you to never let them off the leash as they will run if they see something like a field mouse. I don't think it's a good idea to take them camping, so you may want to consider boarding them at a vet's office.
- No, do not do it, parvo abounds as does lepto virus, etc. They are too young to have innoculations and are very susceptible to disease. If you take them, I pray you do not loose the litter. Can you not leave them with your vet?
- i dont think that is such a good idea. they are too young to be out camping. i think you should try to put them with your vet
- Do you have a family member or friend that would keep the dog? I went a way for a week, the eight year old was put in a kennel, a friend took my five month puppy. I gave them 80 dollars after, but they did not except anything.
- This isn't a good idea. The puppies should be kept at home. There are too many things that can happen, they don't have full vaccines at this age, they haven't had enough worming, you will need a pen or something to contain them in, someone will have to be in charge of watching them at all times (hawks, owls, and other animals can easily take puppies that aren't watched). Traveling with puppies will have to be planned well too. You need a crate begin enough for all the pups and the mom...lots of papers to clean the messes they make. You will have to take lots of food for mom and pups (by 4 wks old they should be on puppy mush). So its not a good idea because of all the work and time you would be spending taking care of the pups and thier health and safety.
- talk to your vet to see what he suggests
