- Why? Can't you go to the pound?
- Don't breed or buy while shelter pets die.
- instead of buying from a breeder, look for a yorkie on Petfinder.com! http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?pet.Animal=&pet.Breed=yorkshire+Terrier&pet.Age=baby&pet.Size=&pet.Sex=&location=19107
- Reasonable Price? Several thousands of dollars for a quality pure breed is reasonable. A few hundred for far lesser quality is also reasonable. You get what you pay for. Like the quality of diamonds or cuts of meat.
- There are many dogs and puppies in need of good homes. You can't do better than a rescued pet. Try www.petfinder.com or www.1800saveapet.com I can guarantee you will feel much better adopting a pup that needs you than buying from a breeder:)
- contact akc and or check out there website www.akc.org they usually have a list of reputable breeders pick up a copy of dog fancy - they have a classified section do a search on the internet for the local newspaper in or around certain town in the areas your looking for and then check out the papers classified section online.
- all you have to do is google Yorkie breeders. We can't advertise here. But FIRST, go to Yorkshire Terrier registering body, you can even get info online if you put some time in to searching, and find BREED STANDARDS. Then: 1) You should be able to see the parents, kept in clean, spacious kennels or in a home 2) You should sign a contract 3) You should get the ancestors from the breeders, discuss what she breeds for, so that you can get the best quality dog 4) Your vet should prove that she had genetic testing done to rule out a high risk of common Yorkie diseases 5) 8 weeks is the YOUNGEST a pup can leave home, 6) ask for references from satisfied customers-a good breeder will want to stay in touch with owners of her puppies! anyone who lets pups go earlier is not a real breeder. There are other qualifications of a good breeder, which i bet you will come across if you do the research. Save yourself LOADS of vet bills and the pain of knowing you got ripped off by looking into the breed and FINDING A RESPECTABLE BREEDER
- Petfinder is a great place to look for any breed. You can also look for Yorkie specific rescue groups. Here's one: http://unitedyorkierescue.org and they have several available for adoption in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
- ADOPT!!! there are so many homeless dogsthat are just as beutiful as any dog that you can get from a breeder. Try petfiner www.petfinder.com you can search for dogs up for adoption near you or you can find a local adoption center near you. PLEASE consider adoption before buying a dog from a breeder!
- Check the AKC web site.
