Cross Breeds

Would a pit bull puppy and am adult rottweiler get along ok?

Here is my situation. I had two dogs. One was a shepherd mix and the other pure bred rottweiler. My shepherd mix recently died ( he was the boss) and now all I have is my sweet natured goofy rottweiler. I have a friend who has pure bred pit bull puppies and I wondering if I could introduce the puppy into my rottweiler's life without major problems. Any thoughts?

  1. I HEARED THAT THEY ARE GREAT FRIENDS BECAUSE MY FRIEND HAS A PIT BULL AND ROTTWEILER ADN THEY ARE THE BESTEST FRIENDS. AND I SAY GO AND GET THAT PUPPY!!!
  2. Let them visit together and see how they get along. Our Humane Society took in a pit bull who killed a Rotty this week. Be careful.
  3. most likely.. buy you will have to be careful when the pup grows up.. also getting the rottweiler and the new pit puppy fixed would be best! its also best to get the opposite sex of your dog now... best of luck and hope it works out.. but puppy's and adults normally do fine!
  4. It really all depends on how your Rottie is around other dogs. I know that when I bought my Dachshund puppy home weeks ago my 6 year old Peke was a terror! I knew he didnt like other dogs, but I wanted a new pup anyway. Now at least my Peke puts up with my Doxie and they dont fight. If your Rottie is good with other dogs he/she should be fine. Make sure to introduce them slowly and dont force anything. Make being around the new puppy a positive experience and give them equal attention. Also get different sexes. Male/female .. Female/Male. Make sure both are spayed/neutered to lessen dominant aggressive issues. Here are a couple of sites that will help you out in meeting a new dog w/ an older dog: http://www.leerburg.com/introducingdogs.htm http://www.pedigree.com/dogsandpuppies/adult+dogs/behavior/socialization/introducing+your+old+dog+to+a+new+dog.asp Hope that helps and Good luck! You have 2 of my fav. breeds! :]
  5. I think you’ll have to be careful when the pit bull puppy grows up. You’ll never know when they’ll attack. Pit bulls are aggressive dogs. They could attack other dogs, little children, or even their owners/masters anytime. My father has two pit bulls (a male and a female). He keeps them caged always, because they often bark angrily at dogs and cats and sometimes at our visitors. When our female pit bull was, I think, 4 mos. old, she had chased an adult dog and had almost attacked it (if only my father was not there to catch her!)…but if you really want, you can train it (my father trains his pit bulls). But that would be really difficult. So, anyway, good luck! I hope this helps. : )
  6. If its done right. I have 9 dogs. 1 is a pit and the oldest.
  7. Before you make any decisions, test the Roti out with the pups. Make a play date for him or her to meet all the puppies and see if he is drawn to any of them. If he doesn't become aggressive at all, the you are in luck and you should get the puppy.
