2 pit bull puppies?

we have adopted two puppies one is a retriever pit bull mix (3 months) and the other one is a pit bull (2 months) , they get along well but when they play they bite eachother and i know that is normal but they bite their necks a lot and i am affraid they will hurt eachother or develop violent behavior, is this normal? how do puppies play? tony dearest, pit bulls are violent if you raise them to be violent (like any other dog), educate your self and dont judge a dog by the way the media shows them, they are great dogs!

  1. Best of luck! I'm sure you have thought it all out in advance. Late Entry : ALL puppies play rough. That's how they learn. My point is that if you WANT a pit, you should know at least that much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. This his how puppies play
  3. This is normal. If you want keep a eye on them every now and then.
  4. Puppies play rough, especially these breeds...make sure they have one on one time to build relationships with you, and not bond so closely with oneanother that they do not mind you. Good luck.
  5. Puppes play by play-biting. This is very subjective, but you can instantly tell when a dog is being seriously hurt by their yelps. If they're playing, they're just establishing some skills as well as hierarchy. They should not become violent; after all, properly socializing your dog is said to prevent violent behavior (with other dogs, or with other people).
  6. That's normal, puppies play using their mouths. As long as both are enjoying it, it's fine. If one puppy is not enjoying the play, pick up the puppy that is playing inappropriately and remove it from the situation for 30 seconds, then let them play again. Usually puppies will do a pretty good job on their own of letting the other know when play has gotten too rough, you only need to intervene when it's clear that one is being bullied.
  7. This is how puppies play. They will work it out don't worry. Have fun with you new puppies. I love that age.
  8. Like that. Now, the other problem is that you have a pack of two. It is never recommended to raise two dogs together like that, becasue they bond to each other, and do need socialize with people. They need to be separated and taken out individually into the world by different people - otherwise, these dogs will never listen to a human, and will end up badly. This applies to ANY dogs, but the fact that these are PB's makes it especially dangerous for them. They need all the socialization they can get - their lives will depend upon it.
  9. I own two PitBulls. Pitbulls play differently from other dogs. They are rough and loud and sometimes it sounds and looks like my dogs really want to hurt either other. But the few times when one had gotten to rough, the other just yelped a little and they immediately stopped, so I know they are just playing. You will have to learn to listen to what they sound like, and when you hear they are getting a bit too rough or excited, then you need to step in, but realize, they play much louder and rougher than other dogs. About the neck, that is just something they do. My dogs will grab each others collars and pull the other dog around. as I said, learn to listen and stop when it gets too rough so they will learn how far to take it when they get older.
  10. This is how puppies play. As long as they are not allowed to actually harm each other (as they get bigger) they'll be fine. Do enroll in a really good obedience class. Both dogs are going to be fairly large - 60 lbs and up - so obedience training is a must. A well trained dog of any size/breed is a joy to be around. A poorly trained dog is a pain in the butt. The key to that is consistency. And of course, spay and neuter! Lucky pups!
  11. It's normal. It's a way of playing. Also, biting the neck is a way to correct unwanted behavior. They are probably doing what their mama did to them. I am fostering 2 pups right now and they keep biting each other's private parts! Now that is quite strange to witness!
  12. It's normal for puppies to roughhouse and play fight, but if you ever see the play getting a little too rough, you need to teach them a command that will tell them that they have to stop. 'Enough' is probably a good one, and each time you say it, have a few treats handy (to show them that if they stop fighting, they'll get something even better) and put them on seperate sides of the room with their treats. BUt by all means, let them play - that's normal puppy behaviour.
  13. I would say that if the puppies are 1 year or older that this behavior should stop. I know 2 weimaraner that continue this behavior and the smaller one did get his face ripped open. Go online and look up body language of dogs. It will help you to know when the playing is serious and when its still play. Ex. hair standing up on the dogs' back would be an aggressive behavior (the dog is trying to look bigger) but if your dog has his front legs laying flat on the ground ( or are very close ) with the butt and tail in the air - then that is harmless play. Always watch all 3 dogs though because one might be playing when the other(s) are being aggressive.
  14. I have owned many pits and stafs, they play rough but most puppies do, it's not just this breed, don't let people drag you into that nonsence that pit bulls are bad or violent, they are only led to be that way by bad raising, just observe them and if they get too rough distract them with something else, I suggest if you have animal planet and can sit to watch a few eppisodes of "It's me or the dog" you will learn alot in just a small amount of time.. Victoria Stillwell is one of the best dog trainers in the world!!! She addresses behaviours as well as just day to day training.. But unless you can tell that one or the other is being aggressive you really have nothing to worry about and make sure you get them fixed as this will also calm them down... But let puppies be puppies, this will shape them for adult hood...Best of luck to you
