How do I help the puppies wean from momma?
The 2 puppies just turned 6 weeks old. The vet said we should have the weaned by the middle of next week. He suggested giving them puppy food with water or milk ground up in the blender. We've been doing this since last Tuesday and the puppies seem to only eat a small bit each time. One puppy tends to eat more than the other. I try to feed them at least 4 times a day. They still try to suck on their mom whenever she is around. Any ideas for helping the process along?

- If they are anything like cats sooner or later mom will not let them nurse anyway. I guess the only other thing you could do is keep them away from each other but I wouldn't hve the heart to do that.
- seperate them for a while, leaving the bowl of water and food out for them to eat and drink when ever they want. (keeping it fresh of course). they will eat when they are hungry. sounds like one has caught on faster than the other. don't worry. they will be okay good luck to you and you pups!
- you can put a t-shirt on mom to keep them from nursing, but only do this if they are eating the gruel your making for them.
- omg same with me ibreed dogs its funy to watch them get 2 mommy but try the iams puppy chow it works very good and misten with warm water and put in fridge they will only eat a little cause its more filling and if they dont eat coax them to make sure mommy is not around let her milk dry up and then they can go bye her and suck all they want mama will push away be cause of the teeth they hurt but if they dont have teeth then let them 2 mommy k hope it works
- Weaning age is 8 weeks for large breeds and 10 weeks for small breeds. Your vet is wrong. Put down canned puppy food and leave them alone. Mom knows how to wean them and she'll do it in her own time- don't ever work against nature, you'll do the pups more harm than good. Just leave the food where they can access it, and don't do anything else. And ignore your vet, he should know you can't put a strict timeline on a natural process.
- Mom knows how to wean her puppies--just let her do it. Don't interfere.
- It's all up to the mom she will wean the puppies when she is good and ready just give her time.
- Momma will take care of it.
