Poems for the Death of a Little Girls Horse?

A friend of mine daughter was at a dog show this weekend and when she came boasting about how great her dog did the Dad told my friend and they decided to tell her today and asked if there was any poems that someone knows of for his funeral tonight.

  1. The time has come To say goodbye To that special four-legged friend Watch as he gallops into the sky His mane and tail swish as he climbs the clouds His agile hooves skip lightly And ever so slightly, A smile flickers on his velvet lips. As high as the flying bird He rejoins the herd And turns round to smile again. Goodbye, Your dear, four legged friend "With a whinny and neigh, The time has come to say Goodbye" Said the horse. "Of course I shall miss you and the things we used to do" Said the horse. "But don't forget me I'll be as happy as can be In your mind for evermore" Said the horse. "So with a whinny and neigh The time has come to say, Goodbye" Horses are such beautiful, intelligent animals They could never just leave you. So when you are sad and feeling blue, Remember your horse up above And feel that love Once again. And when you see a bright star Glinting in the sky from afar Remember your horse up above And feel that love Once again. A pony is forever Is forever Is forever I wrote these now off the top of my head so I don't know if they're any good!

  3. That poem was just beautiful!!! So heartfelt and appropriate for the situation...I wouldn't dream of insulting you by posting another, I hope this is the one that they choose to use. You must be a beautiful person to be able to just sit down and write something like this...it really touched me....I certainly hope that you also get best answer as well.
  4. This is my favorite: Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...

  6. Flugels poems are beautiful.
  7. although his great heart is now at rest,i hear his thunderous hooves beat across the sky. i hear a whinny on the wind . it tells me my friends spirit still runs free we were as one when we rode together, i felt cut in half when he left. my eyes cry but my soul rejoices because it knows that when i am finished here on this earth i will once again ride on the wind with my dear friend.
  8. this poem was given to my friend by the vet when she had to put her horse down. it was written by a european jumping olympian, don't know who. The ground shook with each thundering hoof beat, a giant stride beneath a loving little girl. When you spoke, you were greeted with the twitch of a fuzzy ear and a gentle snort. He batted his eyelash in hopes of a treat, winning your heart over in an instant. Now the needle inhales the cool yellow liquid as the decision is made to end the suffering That same ground shakes as he falls to his knees, the pain subsiding with your whispers and your tears. Next his hind end, as he lowers himself to the ground, to bat his eyelash one last time, his ears listen intently as you whisper your goodbyes. A small kiss to a velvet muzzle, as a tear falls to a blanket of hair, the thundering ground falls silent with the last breath. that one makes me cry every time i read it haha
  9. Is this actually about a dog, not a horse? It's hard to tell that from the way the question is worded. Either way, I'd recommend the Rainbow Bridge poem- it's a great comfort to me to read it when I start missing the horse and animal friends I have known and lost through the years- and there have been many of them. I am sorry for your loss.
