Cross Breeds

Is selling sea horses profitable?

I have kept sea horses for years. They have breed a few times. Each only having a handful of surviving fry. Now my question is, if i were to successfuly breed my sea horses and have say 25 fry survive would i be able to sell them? I have always given them away. And if i can sell them, then to where? and will it be worth my effort? Taking care of sea horses along with my other fish is an enjoyable hobby of mine and an expensive one. If i can get some money from this then it would be great. Thanks

  1. not sure how much there worth, but id pay around 20 dollars for 1 or 2~!~
  2. Yeah it's not really a way to make a living, but it will kinda remburst you a bit for the expenses of keeping them. __________________ Would you be able to sell them? Yeah why not ______________________ Where sell them? I wouldn't do petstores unless you have one that specialize in marine fish & knows what their doing Soo.... why not run an add in a want advertiser or run a add in the papers. ___________________ Will it be worth your effort? I guess their already breeding right?
  3. Look around for seahorse breeders/fish breeders online. Lots of times I see exotic private fish breeders on popular fish forums and the like. It depends what kind of variety your breeding ($20 for common, up to $100 for the more exotic) I did tons of internet window shopping a year or so ago when I was considering horses, but didn't think I would be able to maintain them right, so never got any) Do some internet window shopping yourself, get into contact with some other small private breeders and see what they sell their fish for, the best way to ship them, and the most effective way to advertise. After awhile you once get the hang of it you can build up your reputation and may be pretty successful. Also/or you can use local newspaper ads, I'm sure you could sell them. My local pet store has a seahorse tank of the small black ones, maybe if you had a similar type store, they would buy them from you. I don't think any chain pet store would buy or be able to care for them though
