Size of Clipper Blade for Miniature Horses?

I need to body clip my little girls mini for a show. We don't know much about showing. I just picked up some Oster A5 clippers at a yard sale but I need some blades as the one that came with it won't cut hardly at all. What size blades should I get? Do they have to be Oster brand? Should I get the wide blade or regular? Do I need more than one blade? Thanks! What I really need to know is the size of blades to use like #30 or #10 or #7 etc...

  1. Regular blade is good, I'd get two in case you are clipping for a long time and need to switch blades so that you aren't using one that is extremely hot because they heat up with use. And i'd say they have to be oster brand but im not 100% sure.
  2. Take your blades and have them sharpened or buy new ones . You'll need to use the size that will get the job done, and then it'll depend on how much you want to take off since i'm not familiar with Oster because we use Wahl i don't know the size of there blades.
  3. You won't need a wide blade, a regular width will be fine, but you will need blade wash, and obviously clipper oil. And unless you are planning on dropping your clipper several times one blade will work perfectly. I body clip horses and I uses the same blade for 30 full size horse and it works fine. The blade/clipper gets really hot though so blade wash/coolant is a necessity. And about the brand I would recommend getting oster brand blades because they are nice and will probably be th most efficient with that clipper but if you can find one that fit your clipper that is a different brand that will work fine! Hope this Helps!!
  4. a size 10 blade is the standard size for a full body clip... anything smaller is better to use on the face. If the blades won't cut and you'll need them in the future I would suggest getting them sharpened
  5. you need to find blades that mach the clippers you have (not all blades will fit all clippers) the wide or regular blade is your choice and you should probably get #10 or #12 blades as this is normal for most body clipping also the reason the clippers will not cut might because the clippers are worn out and you will haft to buy a whole new set or the tension on the blades could be set wrong.
