Cross Breeds

Is there something "New" about Breyer Model Horses being re-made/customized?

It seems like the model horse industry has reached a new level - the traditional Breyer-brand plastic horses are being stripped of original finishes, polished, re-painted and resold. This time, the detail & definition is UNREAL! So realistic, beautiful to behold! Are there contests using these newly re-vamped horses, or just for display for personal enjoyment? One sale said "ready to hit the show scene", which makes me think that there are some kind of contests using these models shared between collectors of these fine models. What can you share with me about this? Any links? Do they show up at Trade Shows? Seems kinda fun for those who can't afford the "real" flesh-n-blood horses ownership... Thanks! 041008 4:00

  1. There are all sorts of trade shows and meetings for Breyer collectors, especially when it comes to customization. BreyerFest is a big one. People get REALLY into Breyers and their accessories - adults, not kids. (Adults have more money to spend on them!) http://www.breyerhorses.com/breyerfest/ I wanted to go to Breyerfest sooo badly when I was about 8 or so...LOL! I didn't make it, though, and I eventually sold all my Breyers and their barn and tack in a garage sale to a little girl that clearly loved them as much as I used to...and that was the end of me and my Breyers. :)
  2. There are actually places that have model horse shows! Some I've even seen in conjunction with large alive horse breed shows. They see to have just as many category's as a regular horse show to. http://www.modelhorseguide.com/breyerhorseshows.htm
  3. YES! There are tons of model horse shows, in fact, I used to show horses. A great website for finding some upcoming Breyer shows is Breyerhorses.com. Some of the different things you can show horses in are "halter" where the model is judged on the condition of the paint, the gloss, and how true to the breed it is portraying it is. There are also scene classes where you can create a scene such as a ride through the park or a show-jumping arena. In scene classes you are judged by how realistic your scene is. Model horse shows are very fun and customizing horses is also fun! Its great to buy a horse for only a buck and then re-paint it to look however you want. :D have fun!
