  1. Aww I wuv horsies!! Umm Google.com but I'm sure there is a horse diet expert on yahoo answers (i'm addicted to this answer service)
  2. premium horse feed whith a table spoon of fat builder every three days.
  3. bout 1/2 can of oats and 1 flake of hay at nite
  4. The best thing for any maintenance horse is just high quality forage. Timothy grass hay with some alfalfa makes a great feed. If they're not working, a senior, or a growing horse there's no need for concentrates or mixed rations as long as the hay is high quality. The only thing you may need to supplement is with a vitamin and mineral free choice block and a salt lick. They tend to know when they need something and will go for the licks. If you test the hay you'll know exactly what you're getting also. Making sure the teeth are floated and the horse is dewormed regularily and other basic health care ensures that he gets the nutrition from the forage.
  5. Usually a good diet for a horse that doesn't work is GRASS from outside, HAY and just a bit of grain-- The grain you should use is plain oats, a bit of sweet feed and/or if she is old then senior feed. But you don't want to give her anything that will give her a lot of energy if shes not being worked! Anyways, theres something i wanted to point out-- You said she just sits there in her box all day or just goes for a walk? Are you turning your horse out to pasture, it's not healthy for them to miss out on all the nutrients of the grass and being cooped up like that. It's physically and mentally deteriorating for the horse to be inside all day on nice days and I see no reason why she shouldn't be pastured. Please get back to me on this =) Thanks!
  6. Poor horse. It needs daily turnout and a diet of grass in the summer and hay in the winter. Find a new place to board and get riding or exercising your horse two to three times/week. If you can't, he'll start some unbecoming behavioural changes and you'll have lots of trouble.
  7. Fresh greens, if you want to get technical talk to your Vet.
  8. it really depends on weither or not the horse is over/under weight. It also depends how old they are, and if they have unique nutritional needs. Good Luck!
  9. The average horse needs to eat 2% of its body weight daily in grass hay. Grains and hays high in alfalfa will vary that amount. If the horse is only used for a daily walk, just give good quality hay, and clean water - grain and high amounts of alfalfa are not required. I agree with what some of the others have said - the horse should be turned out more. If pasture is unavailable, then a moderate sized coral would allow the horse to move, stretch, and get some excercise. A horse's enviroment can affect its stress level which can in turn affect how it utilizes the feed you give. A horse with some amount of turn out time is typically much healthier physically and mentally. Michael Hockemeyer Kicking Bear Mustangs
  10. Why do you even have the horse? In the stall all day or on a daily walk? Poor thing must be bored to death. Hay is all the horse needs. A good quality, clean, mold/dust free hay, but please, get the horse out of the stall! It's one of the worse things you can do to the horse, IMO.
