What do you think of the Arabian horse breed?
Is this breed too high class or spirited for a begginer rider who has taken lessons for a bout 4 years. (On and off because of lack of a riding facility.) I realize that every horse has its own unique personality but in general what do you think?

- Arabians tend to be more tempermental and high spirited. THat doesn't mean that you wouldn't be able to handle one. It just means that you should definitely have a bond with one before you get one.
- arabs can be nerve racking, they can be high strung and nervous plus they are very smart- sometimes too smart for their own good. if you can gain ones trust and get one well trained they make excellent mounts. i had an arabian growing up and he was excellent but it took 3 years to break him and another 3-4 to finish him. he was very bullheaded and bright. i would recommend an older arabian, one thats been there seen that and got the tee shirt. a young one might be a little too much horse for a beginner. but thats any young horse really, they say green + green = black and blue
- Arabians can be great horses for beginners. One of my lesson girls has Arabians. The one she shows now is a 15 yr old arab cross mare. If you plan on getting one I would get a well broke older one. Say 15 to 20. Dont let the age scare you because Arabians live a very very long time. One of mine is 34 and still spunky. Ride the horse first, talk to the owner really get a connection with the horse. Arabians are just one of those horses that will do anything for their riders. They learn quick and are real smart. They get spooked at some strange things, depending on the horse. I would just get an older, wiser horse. An older Arabian will take good care of you and teach you everything you need to know. Arab crosses can even provide you with the beauty but a horse thats not so crazy. Try a Quarab (QH ARABX) Good Luck and Enjoy what ever breed you choose.
