Cross Breeds

Is it true that wild horses will mercifully euthanize members of their herd that have broken a leg?

  1. how gruesome if it is so... and you call it merciful... idiot.
  2. I highly doubt it. Wild horses are much more likely to just leave an injured horse behind as they continue to forage. The behavior of "euthanizing" an injured herd-mate makes no sense as their is no advantage to it for the survivors. I've been around horses all my life and have never witnessed any horse even demonstrate mild curiosity in an injured friend.
  3. I watched a Discovery show on horses not too long ago The herd leader killed a sick colt that was unable to walk on it's own A mare will not breed if she has young to take care of so killing the sick one was a benefit to the herd I don't know if he would give the same consideration to an injured adult
