I would like some info on adopting wild horses?
I would like to know more about adopting wild horses. are you allowed to adopt a horse that has had no human contact or training, or do they do some work with them before they put them up for adoption?

- I think it all depends on the facility and its location. I've seen some Mustangs being sold with "a little gentling and halter training" having been done on them. Most, I think, are sold as is, with little to no work having been put forth by the human. Check out this site for further information: http://www.wildhorseandburro.blm.gov/index.php
- go to the BLM website http://www.wildhorseandburro.blm.gov/index.php most the horses are not tamed, you buy them wild and raise them and tame them. They are $125 to adopt and have restrictions etc for the first year. You CAN buy "Genteled horses" for $5000
- Every once in a while the BLM will do a round up of wild horse round up to keep the populations under control. They then auction these horses off to the public, as is,
- Like stated above, check out the BLM website. They have certain dates that they do sales in different parts of the country. They will come out and inspect your place. You must have fences 6' high and an enclosure that is (I think) no smaller than 24'x24' for the horse. You can not sell it within 1 yr. They do periodic check ups on the horses as well. If you can get through all of that, you have a fairly reasonably priced horse (after you buy all new fencing) that is usually pretty darn hardy (and often hard headed) and very often pretty colored (lots of roans in the blm herd).
