A/C is broken, over 100 degrees outside.?
My A/C has been blowing warm air for about 5 days. In Fort Worth it has hit over 100 degrees and I am worried. I woke up feeling very nauseous this morning and sweating profusely after barely having been able to sleep last night. I have been ok so far but last night seemed to be the worst yet. My fans outside and inside all seem to be working ok. My A/C is only about 3 years old. My wire connections seem ok, the filter is brand new. The thermostat is now set to go down to like 60 degrees, but stays at about 91-97 degrees. I vacuumed the outside unit with my shop vac. Any ideas? Please help, it's getting a little scary, I am flat broke right now and I am worried about my cat, he seems alot less responsive than usual and has just been lying around lately. Thanks in advance. I appreciate all of the responses. Thanks for the help. And to Jeff F, I guess you can't read because I already said I am broke, broke means broke, I didn't know there was any other definition in reference to finances. I am not a tightwad.

- Your furnace fan is probably working if it is blowing air, but the AC could have blown a fuse; You have two fuses one for the AC and one for the furnace (naturally or your fan would not work in the winter, when you don*t run your AC) Check your fuse box and see if that could be the problem I feel for you; here in St. Louis the temp is 104.Meanwhile sleep in the basement; it is cooler down there.
- well, if I recall, my friend once made his own air conditioner out of a fan and some copper tubing.... that might be an option. I'm sure if you look around online you could find some schematics.
- Little Mama, there ain't no basements in Texas. And to the poster, you must be already seriously brain impaired if you've gone through teh past 6 days without A/C! Suck it up & call a repairman. This kind of heat can kill you! If you're too broke, take out your VISA and run to Lowe's and buy a window unit for your bedroom. You can get one for about $80.00
- Is the compressor running in the outside unit. I doubt it. You could have a wire burned off or low freon. It's been over 100 here as well - rough. I wouldn't worry about the cat too much. Setting the thermostat to 60 DOES NOT make the unit cool better or faster. I would try to find a friend that has some AC knowledge that might help you diagnose the problem for free. Pray for cooler weather.
- pawn anything you have and come up with enough to buy a cheaper used AC window unit, probably75 bucks, use it in your bedroom so you can sleep. and keep the door closed.
- here's a thought.......quit being such a tightwad and pay a whopping 69 bucks to have an hvac contractor come out to tell you what's wrong with it.
- you dont have any friends to stay with until payday u could die from the heat mean while just drinking plenty of cold water and take cold showers to stay cool wish i knew the answer to ur a/c prob
- It might be low on freon. Is there ice on any of the pipes ? Try going to work and leaving the AC OFF or just run the fan while you are gone. This will give it a chance to thaw out. I mean it really can't get any hotter in your house than it is now. You've got nothing to lose and it might cool down some when you turn it back on...until it freezes again.Mine was doing the same thing and all it took was a shot of freon. I know I'll have to get some work done on it but I will get through the summer. One last thing..if it is 3 years old it should still be under warranty, most have a 5 year warranty. Dig out that paperwork.
- you can open a commercial cred acct at home depot, & use the $50.00 gift certificate to buy an 8000 btu ac window unit. easy to install, & will do on room very well. this is an emergency response till you can afford the probably bigger job. ( i did this to get an a/c for tent camping )..... I had a condenser go out, & it was army worms between the contacts of the capacitor/start up kit -put the unit out, but it was a cheap fix....you may have the same, or it might be a biggie.
