  1. pretty big actually. i got this off of wikipedia.com Maine Coons are very large and energetic cats, sometimes weighing up to around 11-12 kilograms (25 pounds); the average weight is 6 to 9 kilograms (13-20 pounds) for adult males and less (7-11 pounds) for females. Male Maine Coons may grow to a length in excess of 1 meter (40 inches); the longest cat on record is a Maine Coon 121cm (49 inches) in length[1]. Growth to full size often takes longer than for most cats, with Maine Coons usually reaching full size at age four or five. The most common color/pattern in the breed is brown with tabby markings. Maine Coons are recognized in all colors, including tortoiseshell, except for chocolate, lavender, ticked tabby, and the point-restricted ("Siamese") pattern. Eye color also varies widely. All patterns may have green, green-gold, or gold. Blue eyes, or one blue eye with one gold eye, are possible in white coat cats. They share similar facial markings, for example, a distinct "M" shape on the forehead. Maine Coons have medium-long, dense fur, with longer hair, or a ruff, on their chests similar to the mane of a lion (which is why the breed is sometimes humorously called the "Mane Coon"). Their fur consists of two layers - an undercoat and an additional layer of longer guard hairs, which gives the breed their key physical feature. The fur is generally very soft. Maine Coons have long hair on the backs of their legs (called pantaloons or britches) and between their toes which helps to keep warm in the cold. They also have bushy plumed tails and broad, angular heads, squared-off muzzles and wide-set ears topped with tufts of fur. Most Maine Coons keep their fur in good order without the need for additional human grooming, but due to the length and quantity of hair, most will also benefit from a simple brushing once a week. While the Coon may be polydactyl, having one or more extra toes on their paws, this trait is generally bred out. Maine Coons have large ears, which can be tipped at the end with fur. This is a common trait of a Maine Coon, giving them their Lynx-like appearance
  2. big for a domestic cat, if you can, visit a local cat show and see one in the flesh! they get huge compared with regular sized cats.
  3. Mine is around 20 lbs and is a male. He is the sweetest cat ever :) I can send you a pic if you like.
  4. coon is a bad word? I don't get it?
  5. They are certainly bigger than a "domestic" cat but they are the most adorable and gorgeous cats! I have a 5 month old kitten and she is just fantastic fun. They have some very peculiar habits and traits... for example she's obsesses with water which I believe the majority of MC's are. She plays fetch every day, runs after her ball picks it up and brings it back for more and loves hide and seek! She weighs about 3kg and will be 6months old in a couple of weeks to give you an idea. Initially when deciding on a breed I had my reservations about her size but they're not GIANTS so as long as you have the space it's not at all an issue and please remember that what you read on their sizes is the extreme! The majority (especially females) don't reach those sizes!
  6. They can get up to 25 pounds. They are a heavily built cat. They have longer fur and would need a bit of grooming, on occassion.
  7. You'll notice the size difference mostly with males. You'll hear a lot about the weight they can attain, but it's a rare one that is over 20lbs. However, their size doesn't solely mean weight. They have much larger and more muscular frames than other cats, and their coat can make them look bigger. Their tails also help this illusion as they are generally the same length as their back. My friend's is a 14 year old male, and he weighs approximately 20lbs. He's fairly lean considering the weight, and sitting on his back paws his head is about 45 cm off the ground. If you are thinking about getting one you should be aware that they take a few years to grow to their full size and they are prone to being overweight, so their diet needs to be controlled when they are older.
  8. Check with your vet, they should be able to tell you how big they'll get and they should be able to do it over the phone at no extra cost to you Hope this helps.
  9. They do get huge..they don't stop developing until 3-4 yrs of age. And they're the most affectionate lovebugs too. I have 2 boys.. Zeus is 26lbs Snoopy is 18lbs (still a kitten) And 1 girl Mahona who is about 21lbs..mostly fur. Once you see how amazing they are..your hooked. And the reactions I get just from how big they are is hilarious!
