- yes, all maine coon cats are large(not fat), large.
- of course they're not. thats just like saying all humans are fat they're the biggest breed of cat, so will tend to have a bigger build but should have the same size to weight ratio as any other cat.
- I think you are mistaken my eldest Maine coon is a stone in weight and she is only half of the growing age. She looks fat but the vet says shes healthy as anything they are just huge, they are the biggest domestic cats you know. They come from the lynx family.
- There not fat its just a very large breed of kitty. And yes i have seen Maine Coons as big as 40 LBS. My Max was on the small side at 15 LBS.
- Hi. I am a breeder of Maine Coons and they do weigh a lot for a domestic cat, being THE largest domestic breed. Female Maine Coons can weigh anywhere from 8lbs upto 15lbs and the males can weigh anywhere from 13lbs to 27lbs. They should always be balanced to their build and bone structure, but they should never be fat. Because Maine Coons are naturally occuring wild cats, hailing from the state of Maine and surrounding areas, where mankind has not had any hand in shaping their development, they are built purely for hunting and surviving in a rugged and unforgiving landscape, where snow predominates for several months of the year. So, they are hardy, strong and athletic cats with nothing dainty or slouchy about them in appearance. Have you weighed him to see what he weighs? Has he been for a health check up at a vets? Only these things will say if your aunt's cat is overweight. My largest boy is 25lbs in weight and is in tip top shape with not an ounce of fat on him. Also, there are all sorts of myths about the Maine Coon's beginning, that a long haired cat mated with a raccoon (genetically impossible of course :) ) and a domestic cat mated with a lynx, again another myth as Lynx dna would be found in the Maine Coon's Here are some links to an overview of the Maine Coon breed standard - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maine_Coon http://www.cfa.org/breeds/profiles/maine.html http://www.mcbfa.org/breedinfo.html#The%20Governing%20Council%20of%20the%20Cat%20Fancy http://www.maine-coon-cat-club.com/gallery/ All the best.
- Maine Coons are very large and energetic cats, sometimes weighing up to around 11-12 kilograms (25 pounds); the average weight is 6 to 9 kilograms (13-20 pounds) for adult males and less (7-11 pounds) for females. Male Maine Coons may grow to a length in excess of 1 meter (40 inches); as of 2006, the longest cat on record is a male Maine Coon measuring 122cm (48 inches) in length. Growth to full size often takes longer than for most cats, with Maine Coons usually reaching full size at age four or five.
