Horses...........?

Now i'm fine with horses playing around in the field/stables, and I have nothing against horses - it's just the owners/riders. When people decide to ride their horse on the roads they hold up traffic for miles and the horse sh!ts all over the road!! Plus there's always the risk that it's gonna go mental and jump on your bonnet or something like that. Is it just me or do you agree that if they want to ride on the road then the horse riders should pay some kind of tax and pick up all the sh!t - car drivers have to pay car tax, so why shouldn't they?!?!?! I don't care how long horses have been around.........roads are built for cars!! (yes they wee originally for horse and cart or whatever - but i'm talking about the mordern road). "They shoudn't pay tax because they'd prefer the roads to go back to being fields"................They can't prefer anything - they don't have a choice - it's a d^mn horse, humans are in charge! And how can you say they don't hold up traffic when they obviously do - you cant just pass a horse with another car coming at you - they take up too much of the lane - and if drivers are supposed to stay wide and clear of them, then you absolutely have to go in the other lane dont you!! "And finally, most horseriders already pay car tax"............well I have two cars - I still have to tax both!! I DON'T CARE about horse insurance.....horse insurance doesn't go toward costs of roads etc does it!!! SHEILA..........a few things about that....... Horse Crap fertilises tarmac does it?!!! Who says I don't slow down?! - I don't want a big dent in my bonnet so i'm not gonna provoke it am I. The roads are paid for by people who pay car tax, like they should be buy people who want to ride horses on them. Lastly, im English. Why do people keep saying about pedestrians........?? Pedestrians walk on the pavement not in the road!! And cyclists, they're annoying too - but not half as much as horses. 'Horses'............ Dogs were here before cars - but we don't allow people to walk them down the road do we - they stay on the pavement! 'Nokhada'.........That would just be stupid - you're being stupid!......Those that want to ride on the road have to pay a tax - it's valid for however long specified for as many horses as you desire (riding one at a time i.e. one lot of tax doesn't cover a group of 3 people out riding), then you get a wallet sized card to fit in your wallet that you must carry with you when riding - as you would get a tax disc for your car...........or you could get a tax disc and attach it to the eye deflector things that they wear (no i dont care for there official name). SIMPLE!!!!!!

  1. Hmm - haven't you got your priorities wrong? Horses came first and are a more natural thing to have out and about than an environmental disaster such as a car. They shoudn't pay tax because they'd prefer the roads to go back to being fields. (And no, I don't ride).
  2. Same with Cyclists mate, Half of the road is now split with "cycle lanes" Yet they still insist on using the pavement & not having lights in the dark, yet sue motorist when they have an accident. All road users should be registered, insured & taxed accordingly. It's not as if Horse owners can't afford it, I can't afford a goldfish as a pet.
  3. interesting thought as a driver, i pay tax on the car when i buy it, tax on the petrol i use, tax to use the road (i agree with you on that bit - if I - as a driver - am taxed in order to pay for the roads, then other road users should be too, although perhaps not to the same extent); then i'm also taxed by Ken Ratface Livingnazi to drive on the streets in london during the daytime AND my local council charges me if i leave the car on the street during the daytime. Something tells me i should invest in a helicopter....... ps - keep the faith - Arsene knows!
  4. Ok, firstly, horse owners do not hold up traffic - there is no reason why traffic cannot pass a horse on the road in the same way as a bike, as long as they have the decency to slow down a bit. Just as you would pass a person walking their dog, or pushing a pram etc etc Secondly, dogs shit all over the road as well - as do many other animals. Horse shit contains no harmful substances, while dog shit contains harmful bacteria which can cause serious illness and blindness. And I'd rather get horse shit on my tires than dead rabbit/pheasant/fox/cat and all the other horrible stuff that ends up on the road. Most horse riders would not take their horse out on the road if there was a chance it would cause an accident - why would they do that if there was a risk of the animal being injured?! Usually when there is an accident, it results from irresponsible drivers going too fast and not slowing down to pass. And finally, most horseriders already pay car tax, and most of them insure their horses in the unlikely event of them causing damage. A horse causes less damage to the road than a car and absolutely no pollution. And like 'older & wiser' points out, horses were around a long time before cars were invented, and as such have as much, if not more right, to use them.
  5. TRUST ME, AS A RIDER AND HORSE OWNER, I WOULD RIDE ON THE FOOTPATH BUT IT IS AGAINST THE LAW. AND IF A HORSE WAS TO GO MENTAL AND REAR AND BUCK AT YOUR BONNET, IT'S BECAUSE YOU REVVED YOUR ENGINE TOO FAR UP IT'S A+SE AND FRIGHTENED IT THEREFORE NOT ONLY PUTTING THE RIDERS LIFE IN DANGER, BUT ALSO THE HORSES. WHATS A DENT COMPARED TO A LOSS OF LIFE??
  6. Yes they should clean up all the muck they spread. If they don't then they should be donkey punched!
  7. i completly disagree!!!!! its not the horses that cause accidents its the drivers of the cars! most dont slow down when they pass you and more common is that they pass you to close hench why horses spook and damage cars! the solution is to make more public bridleways so that horses can get off the roads i no most people dont want to ride on roads but have no choice!
  8. What came first the chicken or the egg!!!!! same thing what came first the horse or the impatient driver,,don't we just love the country side.fresh air, country roads and the birds singing in the back ground,,,then u get the car. PS Horses may not have a road tax sticker stuck on their head but u still have to get insurance and believe me i isn't cheep.
  9. I have horses and ride them on the side of the road and when they shit it fertilizes the ground. I pay my taxes too. I wish people like you would be polite and slow down when you see me riding my horse on the side the road that I pay taxes on so you don't scare my horse and cause me to have a accident. The roads are public property so unless you own it you have to share it and give the same respect you do other cars and keep in mind America was built on the back of the horse so get over it.
  10. When a horse is being broke to ride it needs to be surrounded by everything possible. I wouldn't want to buy a horse for my child even as a teenager and find out while we are at a Rodeo or some other event that the horse hasn't been exposed to other people, odd noises, vehicles and any thing else we might encounter, including asphalt. A horse with a well seasoned trainer atop exposing the horse to these lessons is the safest answer. As far as their droppings on the road, we don't live in a community where that has ever been a problem. It is free fertalizer and any farmer and rancher or landscaper and even gardeners.
  11. HELLO, any thought of the pollution that automobiles give off!!!!! What's alittle horse crap compared to all the pollution that all you drivers put in the AIR?!!! You people out there that have to own 2 and 3 cars and not to mention the gas guzzeling SUV's! Come on you guys think about it!!! As for bikes no pollution ther either.
  12. that's not very fair. i ride my horses on the road, and i get annoyed that there are so many cars on the road! lets way it up shall we?! horses sh!t - cars making bloody global warming through there polution. horses holding up traffic - old codges going at 1/2 a MPH. horse going mental - a stupid boy races who thinks he can disobey the speed limit! i sort of agree that horse poo should be picked up by their owners, like it is for dogs, but sometimes horses HAVE to go on the roads, because all the fields and bridle paths that we would usually use have been turned into the roads!! i hope this helps you be less ignorent!
  13. um you seem pissed off. but yay horse riders can ride their horses in the grass unless theirs nothing on the road then I think riders can ride on the road. And don't worry about the poo other animals will eat it. you shouldn't be so conserned about it not ur problem. sorry if my people(I'm just like them and their like me) tick u off. but i'm sure u can deal w/ it
  14. If imbeciles like you made more bridleways for us to ride on there would be no need for us to ride on the road would there. Do you really think that if given the choice we would resort to riding on the road? Durr get this guy a brain please! And also mr high and mighty I pay car &bike and lorry tax which means I am contributing to keeping these shoddy roads intact probibly more than you are. And I'd also like to add I bet your one of those idiots who throw their rubbish out of your car window aren't ya (your porbibly going to lie and say you don't). My point being that that rubbish makes more damage to the roads and enviromnent than a bit of horse manure!
  15. Bloody horses, coming over here, stealing our animals' jobs. Send them back to Arabia I say.
  16. I do not wish to be rude, however, if you do not have the patience to drive to the conditions of the road then you should not be driving. There are many slow moving "traffic" such as bicycles and cars towing caravans etc not only horses. Children tend to jump on your bonnet too if you get too close. I have horses which i ride and drive on the road as i have no where else (beleive me the majority of riders and drivers would rather be on tracks), i have a motorcycle license and a car license. I drive to the speed limit and still have people up my backside and tearing past me in my car on dangerous corners. Perhaps you would like to put your question to the mounted division of your local constabulary?
  17. Well, as a horse rider/owner, I agree with you to a certain extent - there are some really insconsiderate riders out there who give horse riders a bad name. HOWEVER A) Horses dont cause the same "wear and tear" on roads as cars do - and NO their shit is NOT counted as W&T! (so i dont think they should have to pay road taxes.) B) In some areas there simply is NO where else to ride. C) It should be up to the "County Offices" and other concerned people (like the riders and YOURSELF) to create safe bridle paths for the horses. Believe ME!!! riders do not WANT to ride on the road - it Is dangerous for them as it is potentially dangerous for yourself and other road users!!! D) At the end of the day, horses and their owners are road users, and like pedestrians and cyclists they have right of way by LAW. and just as there are laws for drivers, there are laws for pedestrians and horses. This includes riding in single file, and being aware of other road users, and being polite and just general manners.
  18. Horses don't do any damage to the road, they don't emit carbon or any other pollutant, they don't break the speed limits or do anything else to warrant having to pay road tax. The primary purpose of the road fund license is to pay for repairs and policing of the highways which horses and their riders in no way contribute to. On the subject of horse shite, it dissipates when it rains and is not harmful in any way therefore why would it require picking up?
  19. You have to slow down for pedestrians and bikers too so why are you not complaining about them. The bicyclist aggravate me way more than the few horses I encounter on the roads. There are also way more people who walk dogs that poop everywhere and most of the they are not picking up that.
  20. hi i ride down the road on horse back, it not the horse u have to worry about, its those crazy drivers that are all over the road. i ride on the side walk, i don`t ride down the middle of the middle and i always move over or ride in ditches when i can, so of the drivers on the road have no respect, beeping there horns, yelling out your car windows and slaming on the gas. it upsets me to see rude people like this on are roads there are the ones u have to worry about. remember horses were here 1st they have just as much right to be able to ride on the shoulder of the road.
  21. Do you also complain when bicyclists are holding up traffic? I hate it when a biker is pedaling along at 10 miles per hour and I can't get past them because of on coming traffic. Should they be charged a road tax, too? I don't ride on roads, myself, so are you going to tax me too, even though I don't ride on the road? How do you propose to tax only certain horses and riders? Make them attach a license plate to their horse's butt?
  22. YES. Road tax and insurance. Cyclists too.
  23. You need to get a life mate.
  24. where else r we supposed to ride.until horses sprout wings put up and shut up....ps......ur dissin horse riders when u support arsenal
  25. Sir, I ride horses, and I agree with you. Old back road, dirt roads that not many people travel are fine to ride a horse on, but you should never take them near a highway or a well traveled road. Your just plain stupid. It is polite for the cars to slow down, but they shouldnt have to. You horse needs to be trained well enough before you ride on roads, or you should be able to handle your horse if he bolts, rears, or kicks when a car passes at 65 mph. If you live that close to a city or highway YOU DONT NEED A HORSE!! Horses are meant to ride and work in grass or dirt not pavement. As far as the taxing goes I think y'all are all just being stupid and that thats not very likely. You could petition it to make it a law with certain roads or highways.
  26. You have never ridden a horse on the road, have you? I try to avoid it because 90% of the time, there are the stupid drivers going by that think it is a good idea to honk their horn at you, which most horses hate. I rarely ever get people moving over. I am on the side, in the gravel, and they are pretty much on that edge, doing full speed. Unless there are people directing traffic in organized trail rides, I have never had a car slow down as they passed.
  27. Unfortunately where I am from I have no option but to ride on the road, we can't ride in the fields over here as the farmers won't allow it and there are no bridle paths either... I am of the same opinion as you I would much prefer to keep my horse off the road as there is always a risk that the horse will bolt and we'd both end up getting killed by a car. As for paying a tax to use the road I don't think that would work also picking up horse Sh!t off the road while holding your horse and dodging impatient drivers would just be plain dangerous and I don't think they do poop a scoops and baggies big enough!
  28. Jeez hun - take a chill pill!!!! Its not like horses are rampant on the roads! and whilst we're at it - a lot of car owners dont have consideration for us on the roads at all! Ive been nearly blown off my horse on several occassions where cars dont bother to slow down or pass wide - just take a deep breath next time you see horses - admire their statuesqe beauty and wave at the rider - you'll feel soooo much better! xx
