Is it ok to feed cats "human food" (read on, this is going to be boring LOL)????
you see, i USED to have cats. i am thinking back to the times when i had my cats. we used to feed them all kinds of food, not just pet food. we would pour the leftovers of the meals we cooked in their bowl. they would eat leftover rice, milk, bread and almost anything lol. my dad would often buy raw meat from the store and feed it to them!!! when i was little, and even though i knew it was unsanitary to share my plate with the cats, i still did it LOL!!!! sometimes i would even put a little slice of my birthday cake in their bowls. some of my cats liked eating sweet things. i no longer have cats and i know that what i did was unsanitary(like sharing my plate) but that was long ago and i was a little girl. but my question is: would it be ok to feed cats human food?????? is RAW meat ok for them??????????

- Only meat. A cat may like a lot of foods, but it's not necessarily good for them. They are considered true carnivores. They can't metabolize carbohydrates like bread, rice, ect. I had a cat once that liked cantelope. I let him have it whenever I was eating it, but I made sure it was harmless to him first. Maybe not so nutritious for him, but it wasn't that often.
- i have had cats my whole life i have found it a good way to keep them from begging or trying to steal food is to give them somthing when you are done eating human food should NOT be the primary source of food for them but it is perfectly fine to give them a fry or chunk of hamburger or let them lick your plate when you are done uhh..... edit: cows milk is 100% perfectly safe and healthy for a cat, it is the caffeine in the chocolate that is toxic as for raw meat, i'd never give it to my cats but they do tend to eat live mice from time to time
- not constantly - but small treats as you have mentioned is alright
- you can give them cheese, meat, and milk nothing else (do not give them large amounts of dairy products!)
- No Different biology... cats are designed for raw meat. Humans are not... raw meat usually makes us ill. Chocolate is poisonous for cats as is cows milk. Somethings both can eat. Also just as the cat eats it doesn't mean its any good for it
- Raw meat and scrambled eggs are good treats for cats but generally speaking you should feed cat food as their main source of nutrition.
- its fine in very small bits and not all the time, but never give your cat chocolate or cows milk they can both damage the cat specially chocolate because they cannot digest it, there is special milk out there for cats so please dont give them any dairy containing cows milk is it NOT good for them, and that has been said many times by Vets themselves
- I am a 55 year old ldy and have had cats since early childhood. Cats love raw meat and it is part of their natural diet. (THink mice birds etc). Cats also enjoy milk and cheese though these should only be given moderately - Water is better for them. One of my cats had Sunday lunch with us each week (he didnt like yorkshire puddings) and would also eat leftover chips and pasta by choice. He also used to have a buffet tea with us having his own plate with prawns, ham and pate. Off course he was fed normal cat ood as well bur he loved being part of the family as much as we loved him.
- Raw meat is absolutely fine for them. Have a look at www.rawfedcats.org Milk is not good for them, cats are lactose intolerant. Some of them aren't as sensible to it as others but you should avoid giving it milk. Only very rarely and as a treat. Chocolate and tomatos are very dangerous, as it could kill them. You should avoid vegetables, fruit and grains, as it is not part of their natural diet. Basically the perfect diet for them is meat (as long as its raw), bones (no cooked bones though, they could choke) and organs (liver, hearts, etc.)
