My cats keep urinating all over the carpet. How can I stop it?

I have tried everything. Their litter box is kept clean the majority of the time. There is a boy and girl cat who are both fixed and declawed. They have been here since kittens. Suddenly they start to urinate everywhere. I tried special catfood. They go all over the carpet, all over clothing, everywhere! I can't put them outside. I'm about ready to give them to the pound. I'm an avid cat lover. I've never experienced anything like this with cats ever. These cats are well loved. These aren't the first cats I've owned. I've box trained several cats in the past with no issues. I'm at the end of my rope. All suggestions welcome. Thanks! In response to a couple of questions. The cats have been litter box trained all this time. I thought they had a urinary tract infection so that was the kind of special cat food I got them. I have thought of taking them to the vet, but if there is a better suggestion I'll take it, taking two cats at once will cost a minimum of $300 and with three kids to care for by myself its something I'm trying to avoid. Its amazing at the friendly responses I've received on my first post ever here. I rescued these cats over 5 years ago from the shelter when I was still married and had only two children. Since that time I've change my life completely. I now am single and have three children. (I didn't think I'd have to defend myself here I though I'd be asking the questions). Until the divorce, I took them to the vet all the time and they had everything. I have almost no extra money to speak of these days and believe it or not, I have to put my childrens needs ahead of my cats who I do love. However, I can't afford to be constantly washing all the clothes in the house, shampoo all the carpet, or pay someone to walk around and spray them with some special formula when I'm working. I was hoping someone else had experienced this but its clear that posting here was only to be insulted and put down for having cat issues. It won't happen again.

  1. Then why can't you start potty training your cat?
  2. if this is recent, then that is really weird, you should take them to a vet
  3. well they might of figured out that they can mark territory with pee or .........it has to do with something in the "special knew food" you buy
  4. I'm going through the same problem, I have one unspayed female, and two unneutered males that are doing this. I thought that it will stop when I get them fixed because my fixed cats (2 other boys another female) don't do this. But then again they aren't all in the same household. But they are all indoor cats. They're not gonna be fixed till mid-April. Urrg. But for now what we're doing is we got his spraycalled "urine gone" from Wallgreens and Target and it came with this black light (to find the pee). So we just spray it whenever they do. Plus we got a wet vaccume. I've heard that cats do it for territorial dominance or when they're in heat. I hope I helped.
  5. Take them to the vet and make sure there is nothing wrong with them. If there isn't anything wrong with them ask the vet what you can do to stop it.
  6. Chances are that it's a medical problem, as that's the most common cause of inappropriate urination in cats. Get them to the vet ASAP, because what would be a simple infection or manageable diabetes could turn to kidney failure before you know it. I can't believe that you're considering giving them to the pound, where they may be euthanized. If you can't afford the medical care of cats, you shouldn't have had them in the first place. Please do the responsible and caring thing and seek veterinary attention immediately.
