Ants eat my cats catfood LOL?

Every time i go to refill my cats food i notice there are hundreds of ants swarming in it. I tried doing a simple thing that will repel them, I placed dish soap all around the bowl (cat wont eat it and its out of his reach) and it worked for a while but the soap slowly dried and the retard ants got across. whats an easy way to kill them or get them away from my cats cat food. P.s. no poison or stuff cuz my cat might eat it and die.

  1. Place the feed dish in a separate bowl of water, no soap is necessary.
  2. Flour has a tendancy (sp?) to keep ants away, they don't like crossing it for some reason. --Cinderpelt Cat-- --Cat Care Help--
  3. Try putting an empty jam jar with sugar in it close by to draw them away and when there's enough of them there kill them with boiling water =)
  4. just put the ant trap somewhere kitty can't reach :-)
  5. i agree with crystal put the bowl of cat food into a bowl of water...ants cant swim....
  6. Put your cat's food in a bowl that about 2" smaller than a flat one.....a plastic plant "saucer" works great for the BOTTOM one. Put water in the saucer (no hole), and put food in the "upper" bowl. Just make sure the bowl of food doesn't "touch" the bottom saucer. The ants won't be able to cross over the water, so won't be able to get the food. HOWEVER.................you'll have to put NEW water in the saucer every time you fill the bowl, because the cats may spill food out of the bowl INTO the saucer. Then the food will swell up and the ants can get it. Hope this helps..........
  7. You can try finding out where the ants are coming from and get them at the source. You probably have ants in your food too which is not good. There are many sprays that are safe to use around animals I use them myself outdoors. There are baits designed so that animals can't get to them. Do your research or talk to the people at the store.
  8. Dichotomous earth (use human grade encase the cats eats some). "Diatomaceous Earth kills by physical action, not chemical, by puncturing the insect’s exoskeleton and absorbing the moisture in their bodies." http://www.dirtworks.net/Diatomaceous-Earth.html#anchorfossilshellflour
  9. Move the cat's food and water dish. Also they have these trap that attract ants but cats can't get to them. Anyway good luck!
  10. Cinnamon...we would sprinkle it around at the nursing home to get rid of ants...it is harmless..gets under their exoskeleton and irritates...they go away...
  11. Cornmeal-Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it home and can't digest it, so it kills them. It might take a week or so but will not harm pets or children.
