Looking for a small breed hypoallergenic puppy?
I'm thinking of getting a puppy and was hoping for a some advice or suggestions from other pet owners. I've listed a few of the guidelines I've been considering as I look. 1. Hypoallergenic 2. Little to no shedding 3. toy or small size (under 10 pounds) 4. I live in an apartment with little yard (so something that requires little outdoor exercise and doesn't bark all the time) 5. Doesn't require much grooming 6. pure or mixed breed 7. Easy or fairly easy to train (especailly house training) I'm looking for a companion/lap dog that doesn't mind riding in cars and is good with other dogs and children. I would appreciate any suggestions. Also, I've looked at a few different mixed breeds (like the papi-poo and yorkie-poo) but can't find any pictures of what they look like as adults. Any suggestions?

- toy poodle, they don't shed, thus, no dander, which is what people are really alergic to.
- Shih Tzu. A small one can stay clipped so there would be very little grooming. These dogs are therapeutic and will become your best friend. They are awesome.
- maltese
- Chinese Crested Hairless. They can have hair too if you want. With out the hair, you just have to pay attention to putting sunscreen on it when it goes outside. They're small so they're perfect lap dogs. They're pretty friendly, and cute. I don't think they shed. The hairless ones only have a little hair on their paws, tail, and head. The ones with hair have it all over. Hope I helped!
- a weenie dog
- Try a Peek-a-poo they are great, my husband is allergic to dogs severely, and he had a peek a poo a few years back, and would love to get another. They are great tempered too, good with kids, little to no shedding, and absolutely adorable
- I have a little shih tzu a poo mix and they told me that she wouldn't shed but i was told by my vet all dogs shed especially if they get really stressed
- A Maltese would be one of your best bets. I have 4 of them and am allergic to a lot of different things but my dogs are not one of them. My grandma breeds them and I know people who bought them from her that wanted to buy their children a dog but they were extreamly allergic and they got a Maltese and she sleeps in bed with the kids. They are such fun dogs and super smart. The only time that a Maltese sheds is when you are brushing them. My littelest one is about 4 pounds and my biggest one is 10 pounds. I can't tell you how unbelieveably awesome these dogs are. My grandma usually has them sold before they are born.
- I have a Shorkie. She is a Shih Tzu and Yorkshire Terrier mix. Although these dogs can require much grooming, you can keep their hair cut short and it is much easier to care for. I brush her hair two times a week, sometimes less. I have a very busy schedule, as most of us do, but am able to keep her hair looking nice with little effort. I take her to a groomer every 6 to 8 weeks. She doesn't shed much at all. I have two children and she is wonderful with them. I travel often and she rides very well in the car. She has been easy to potty train also. She knows to go outside but will use a potty pad if she has to. I have taught her a few tricks and she learns quickly. She wasn't very expensive and isn't expensive to maintain. She weighs about 5 pounds. She is almost a year old and if you would like to see pictures of her, send me an email requesting them and I would be glad to send you pics. Good luck!
- A poodle fits all of what you are looking for, other small dogs require a lot of grooming for their "hair", it isn't fur that sheds, it just grows until you cut it and can look an awful mess at times.
