Cross Breeds

What dogs shed the least and are good, calm house dogs? Which breeds live the longest?

I am interested in getting a dog. I live in the country so there is little traffic. I want a dog that doesn't shed too much, will alert me to anyone coming to visit,is smart but not hyper. I want it to go for walks with me but not be so big that it is pulling me along, rather than walking beside me. Medium sized, I think. It could be a mixed breed from an animal shelter

2. Chihuahuas are very nice animals. I have found that standard size doggies (not the tiny ones) have the best disposition. I have a deer head (like the taco bell dog, not tinkerbell) & she only barks once or twice when startled. She's very friendly with kids & easy to care for, she loves to be sleeping on my lap or trotting down the street with me. She's a short hair & does shed but the hairs are tiny & super easy to clean up. Smaller dogs tend to have a shorter life span, make sure you ask about family history.
