  1. labs
  2. poodles, yorkies small toy dogs of all kinds can do this chihuahuas
  3. golden retrievers and yellow labs
  4. Dalmations are one of them, I know that much! They were originally dogs which ran alongside carraiges, but weren't really bred for a specific job. Pugs as well-not bred for any specific 'work' Labs and goldens are NOT strictly bred for companionship-sheesh people! They are retrievers-hunting dogs. Therefore, they are in the sporting/gundog cattegory, not companion/utility.
  5. pomeranian, chihuahua, bichon frise, poodle...
  6. all the little ones that's too small and useless for anything else```
  7. Labs and Golden Retrievers
  8. Maltese
  9. Labs and golden retrievers have always been my favorites, I have one of each. Both breeds are known for being very gentle, fine around other animals (including cats), loyal, and easily trained. Other than that, I would say very small dogs like chihuahuas (even though they tend to be a bit loud).
  10. if you want an annoying little rat you should get a small dog. if you want a great dog that'd always be by you, get a lab.
  11. From my research, it seems mostly the smaller breeds. Pomeranians, Pugs, Boston Terriers, and Spaniels. Here check this link out! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Companion_dog
  12. You are kidding right? If not A pug does nothing but look cute abd be small. The other ones that some peole named here do have deffinite jobs but also make great companions. You may want a min-poodle. But deffinitely not a lab.
  13. A lot of small toy dogs. Actually probably pretty much all of them. That's why people like them, they were bred just to be our companions. For example, cavalier king charles spaniel, maltese, pekingese, havanese, shih tzus etc. etc.
  14. Yellow labs...huskys (very pack driven dogs...they rely on others) But bigger dogs are more work but listen to commands better...so it all depends on what size of dog and what exercise level you can provide?!?!?!
  15. Maltese, pugs, Shih Tzu, Japanese Chin, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (CKCS's can be really sweet companion dogs, I know a few who are trained/certified for therpy work.) English toy spaniels, bichon frisee (sp?), pekingese, lhasa apso, chihuahua (well, they have reputation for being more protective and feisty than the average pit or rottie...) minpin, mini poodles, American Eskimo Dog, Chow Chow (bred to be eaten originally...), Coton de Tulear, ...I'm sure there are more, I just can't think of them. That said, even dogs who were bred to be companions need exercise and a job to do. So, while you may avoid the ankle nipping, compulsive digging or sock hoarding you see in "working" dogs without a chance to do their breeds' job, those companion breeds can still develop behaviour issues if you don't put some time into training.
  16. A lot of the toy breeds were developed to be the "lap warmers" for people. Many of these breeds have been in existance for a very long time. The Pekingese, for example, was carried around in the sleeves of royal Ladie's Kimonos. Maltese, Japanese Chin, Yorkies, Papillons, Havanese and a few I've probably forgotten were developed to be companions to humans, first and foremost. Some Toy Breeds started with other uses, took on a companion's role and were allowed to develop that way. Here is a link with a list of the AKC recognized Toy Breeds and descriptions of all of them. http://www.akc.org/breeds/toy_group.cfm
  17. I have seen other lists with variations of this but my encyclopedia of the dog lists these breeds under Companion dogs: Bichon Frise Maltese Havanese bolognese Chihuahua Coton de Tulear lowchen Lhasa apso Shih Tzu Kyi Leo Pekingese Japanese chin King Charles Spaniel Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Tibetan Terrier Tibetan Spaniel Chinese Crested French Bulldog Pug American Bulldog Olde English Bulldogge Poodles Dalmation North American Shepherd Himalayan Sheepdog Tai Ridgeback Danish/ Swedish farm dog Lucas Terrier Shiloh Shepherd Prazsky Krysarik Lowchen
