- No breed of dog is a bad breed. Unfortunately, there are plenty of bad breeders out there (who breed aggressive dogs or ones with genetic defects) and even more bad owners. No child should ever be left unattended with any dog, no matter how well behaved the dog is.
- I looked up the newspaper story. That's really sad and weird. However, there is no such breed as the pit bull. There are many breeds and even more mixed breeds that the media has labeled as "pit bull." See the tests below. There is a breed called the American Pit Bull Terrier, but the term "pit bull" is commonly used to describe as many as 30 purebred dogs and mixes. I find that news story very sad. But it also leaves me wondering about the dog. "Pit bull" doesn't mean anything except that the news reporter and/or the police were ignorant. It's impossible to say what that dog really was. It could have been a mix with some features similar to American Pit Bull Terriers. This is the problem with most "pit bull" reports. They don't say what the dog really is. I'd recommend you watch this video. It shows the American Pit Bull Terrier as the media rarely does. It's a strong working dog with enormous heart that has saved hundreds of lives: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdY9Z5ub9xw#comment If you like this video, there are also several other videos that will pop up about the American Pit Bull Terrier. In answer to your question, there is no dog around today that is bred to be bad. The American Pit Bull Terrier was never bred to be "bad." Some ancient extinct breeds (such as Roman war dogs) maybe were bred to be "bad." Even when American Pit Bull Terriers were bred to be fighting dogs, they were always, always bred to be good human companions. Aggression towards people was NEVER tolerated. No breed is bred to be bad. Perhaps some breeders of various breeds breed their dogs (either intentionally or by not caring about the temperament of the parents) to have worse temperaments than others.
- It isn't the breed that is bad but humans do use some breeds wrong. Dogs were all bred for a purpose, a job. Humans have found a way to turn protective dogs "mean" but that doesn't mean the breed is bad.
- i didnt hear this story, I live in ky. but i have heard of similar stories like this one. I would agree w/you my opinion has always been it depends on how you raise a dog is how they will act. but cases like this I dont understand..... maybe it does have to do with their breeding? Idk..... these cases always seem to invole pitbulls... I have been around them and they seem sweet, but I personally would never own one myself I see them as a potentional danger for children.....thats just my personal opinion.
- theres more to this story than what were getting...a pitbull that was raised from a pup with the child shouldnt just turn on the child for no reason at all...thats not right!
- John Locke said everyone is born with a clean slate. Now if you want to consider this with animals you can. Even though the boy may have raised the dog well there will always be those primal instincts. If the dog felt threatened or that his dominance was being tested by the boy then the dog would demonstrate its power as necessary and maybe kill the boy. But that is what makes animals pretty much animals. Not a struggle between good or bad just an animal doing what it feels it should do.
- No breed is bad. The media loves to , publicize every horror story they can find on Pitbulls. No child should be left unattended with a dog. Dogs don't attack for no reason at all, something provoked him. I was bitten by my father's Dobie as a small child. I recieved over 40 stiches on my head. I don't blame the dog, I blame my father for being irresponsible.
- This makes no sense.. Everyone says ' Don't blame the breed, blame the deed ' It's not the dog, it's the owner.. So now supposedly this dog was raised properly, and OMG it's not the breed.. It's now the Breeder... The next story that comes out and it's not the owner, and it's not the breeder.. Who then will be blamed.. The neighbour? The dog food? Pollution?? Animals in the wild don't attack people for no reason. They attack because people are invading their territory.. Something which means alot to wild animals.. They attack because they are cornered or threatened.. And they attack because they are hungry.. You can't compare a wild animal to a domesticated dog. You can't tell me one day that dogs are domesticated and need us to care for them and dress them up like babies, but on the other hand they are wild animals and act on instinct.. The story changes too often to fit what is needed..
- First you weren't there first of all so you don't know if they didn't train the dog to do this. Especially if no one tried to stop the dog. Second dogs don't just turn. That silly to think that. Somewhere down the line someone had to teach this dog this. In the wild animals dogs included don't just attack for no reason. Something has to happen first. Whether it be training or something else ie the dog feeling threated. No animal except for the wonderful human just attacks for no reason. Sorry. You don't know all the details. Think about it. The media will do whatever posible to "sell" their story. Most of the time that means leaving out details and "spicing" up the story a little bit. Remember that. Dogs have no ability to reason. They do whatever they are trained to do by their owners.
- I agree with Veggie Love since people always make comments on rumors like "Have you heard there was ......" and the actor is obviously a pitbull. We cannot say anything certain about the incidents if we do not see it. And it is not always necessary that media is telling the all truth. Yes sometimes they do skip some details to spice up their stories. And I do not think that this is only for this kind of animal attack news. Attacking for no reason is a real rare situation. And yes even wild animals attack for some reason so what's the difference of pitbulls showing they always attack with no reason? Please do not jump on everything you hear or read on newspapers. Best luck
- there are like everything else bad genes in some dogs if you buy a dog of this type you should see the parents and find out a little of its history basically there are no bad dogs justm bad owners and the owner of a particular doge gandparents could have made the dog viciouse therefore putting viciousness in his bloodline
