Cross Breeds

I have two questions... and they are two different topics.?

First off, I have Pomeranian/Maltese mix that is 6months old, the cutest little thing. My first question is about growing out of the puppy stage. She used to be a handful, she's potty trained, but would pee in her cage all the time(I got up two or three times a night to take her out) and she'd also eat poop and not just her own she would eat our Great Danes and our Chihuahuas, and she'd always be chewing things up...Well the past two weeks it's like everything clicked she hasn't went potty in her cage she doesn't try to sneak poop, and hasn't tore up anything inside. My question I guess would be are most puppies like this? It just click one day? My other two dogs never got into the phase she was into... Also here's the one I'm concerned about. She has lost almost all of her baby teeth, but her eye teeth on top and bottom have baby teeth and adult teeth. Is this normal for both set of teeth to be in at the same time? My other two dogs never had this...I've felt to see if they are loose. I felt to see if they were loose, and they aren't loose.

  1. yes -rick
  2. It is common for dogs, especially smaller dogs, to retain their puppy teeth, HOWEVER, it is important that the baby teeth are removed. Leaving them in can alter the alignment of the 'bite' (the way the top and lower layer fit together). Your vet can remove the baby teeth when you get her spayed, which shoulb be any time now, if she is 6 months old. And yes, puppies sometimes (in fact often) just 'click' and it all makes sense to them!
  3. Often puppies eat poop b/c they just don't know any better, but sometimes it can be a signe that are not getting proper nutrition. Definitely find out if she is healthy and doesn't need any additional vitamins. My older dog started to do this b/c he wasn't getting enough protein. And the second part of the question - yes, it is normal about the teeth...
  4. my 2nd dog had his baby teeth and adult canine teeth at the same time (totalling 8 fangs at the same time). When i went to the vet she advised me to give it a couple more weeks. They took them out when i got him netuered. It is very common for this to happen. As for the miracle, you are lucky she just stopped!! Perhaps she had a bad experience with the great danes poop!
  5. First question: Some click, others gradually get the idea, each is different. Second question. Yes this is normal, so far, but could be bad if you don't do anything about it. Make sure she has some sort of hard teething toy, not a stuffed one, but like a nylabone or some such. My little girl is 8 months now, a chi. Last month she'd finally lost all her puppy teeth except her top 2 canines. I quickly went and bought her a new hard toy. It was hard plastic tube with strings hanging out the ends for tug. She loved it, and 3 days later, she'd lost those last 2 teeth! If she doesn't work them out on her own, you'll have to take her to the vet and have them removed. But I recommend trying a new toy first, it's cheaper and better for her!
  6. All pups mature differently. None of mine have ever "clicked," but matured slowly and steadily. I don't think it's anything you have to worry about. Just be glad it happened! No, it's not normal to have two sets of teeth. These are called retained deciduous teeth, and will need to be removed to prevent problems later. When you take her in to be spayed, request that these teeth be removed while she is under anesthesia. Please don't leave the teeth there indefinitely - best to get them out now than have bigger problems (and bigger vet fees) a few years from now.
