How do older cats adpat to new kittens in the house?
We have a nearly 2 year old female cat and are thinking of getting another kitten for company. I was wondering if they could pose a problem? eg. jealousy issues, territorial issues? Also do male cats have different temperaments than female cats? How do you go about introducing a kitten into a home with a cat?

- when cats are as young as 2-5 they can get jealous, id wait till its older because older cat normally treat kittens as their own. But you could get a kitten but give equal attention, or get a 1-2 year old. But give it a try. You never know ....
- This is just the chance to take. I got a older F/M kitten for my2yr old male.(he was indoor/outdoor) He didnt really mess with her(fight) but never played with her. I have a 11yr old F/M. that grew up w/ my boy and he never played w/her but once in a blue moon. She was skittish because of him letting her know that was his house. My step sis stayed w/me for 2 mo. and had a F/M and they never played, mine was more scared but delt with her thier.Hers wanted to play, but never went there I guess she knew her boundry. Now I took in a F/M stray that was prego. She was fine w/ my F/M(didnt bother her,nor did mine) Till she had the babies, then she was proective over me and wanted to fight mine ALL the time. So I had to put her on the patio and that is where they live.I put mine in the bedroom to let the others come in and play. I bring in a kitten here and there and show my girl. Sometimes she sniffs sometimes hiss. So Honey its hard to tell. Try it out. Leave the new one in a carrier and show yours and let them hang like that for a while .Do it slow, cause a kitten will want to play and yours might think its attacking at first. Good luck.let me know how it goes.
- They will adapt after a short period of jealousy. Cats are more solitary than dogs, so you won't have the Alpha Male problem. The older cats may leave the new ones alone, however the new kittens will want to play. They may get batted around a bit, but not viciously. They will learn to respect the territory of the older cat, but the older cat will also learn to play a little with the new kitten. Just bring the new cat in, show the cat the to the older cat, and stay close by to see how they interact.
- well it depends on how often they have been around younger cats and other cats in general. They might have a jealousy issue so give them lots of attention. Female cats normally are more jealous but more caring, male cats are normally less jealous but not as nice to the younger cat. I hope this helps!
