Cross Breeds

I have a 1-2 week old abandoned baby goat.Is there an animal shelter or someone that will take care of it ?

It has already been taught to drink from a bottle so it's very simple to feed it. You may even want it as a pet. It's the cutest little thing. It hops around, plays and wags it's tail like a little puppy, but I can't keep it because I have 3 dogs that I'm afraid might kill it or hurt it. So please if you know a place that will take care of it let me know. Thanks.....................

  1. What country? What county/state? What town? It's going to be impossible to help without that information. As long as your dogs are adequately trained, there's no reason why they would hurt the goat. They will accept it as part of the family.
  2. If I were you I would raise it. Let it get big then butcher it for food. Or you can sell it. Or raise it big then sell it to a butcher shop.
  3. sure plenty of places get in touch with ur animal protection agencyor animal shelter(ex;mspca)what ever the name is where u live.
  4. I would take it, i work on a dairy farm and rear calves etc, also goats are good for weed control on our pasture, but i don't know where you are. I am in oz. Take it to your local shelter.
  5. Why not call your local county ag building. They can give you the names of some local 4H leaders. And I know some kids in 4H would love to have a small goat to care for. It would please them greatly. You just need to get in touch with the 4H leaders who can connect you to them.
  6. It sounds like you love the goat. Is it possible to raise it yourself if you keep it separate from your dogs- Like in a cage/ pasture area in your backyard? How did you get the goat in the first place? Was it abandoned by one of your goats or someone else's? If it was one of yours, you can bottle feed it and when it is big enough, it can go back in with your goats and you won't have to get rid of it. I have known many people that have raised baby goats with their dogs. As long as your dogs aren't aggressive towards it or gang up on it, the baby should be fine with them, but if they show ANY signs of aggression- don't even try to get them used to each other. I have a goat now that we got from someone that raised it with their black lab. She's really funny- she thinks she's a dog. Whenever she breaks out of her cage, she goes to our dogs' cage instead of the rest of our herd of goats. The dog that she was with before actually played with her like she was a dog. It would growl at her and she would headbutt it. They never hurt each other and it was funny and cute to watch. If you cannot keep the goat, I would check to see if any local shelters will take it or if any 4H groups near you want it. I wouldn't just drop it off at a farm or a petting zoo because they usually use goats for things that aren't really nice. Many farmers kill and eat goats or they are shipped to an auction and moved from one home or the other- or worse, they end up in the care of butchers. I live on a small farm and have PET goats. I will not sell any of my animals at auctions and make sure they go to good homes. I have seen too many animals mistreated and have seen many animals sold at auctions one week in good condition, just to see them back the next week in the worst possible condition- many of my pets have come from auctions and have had to be nursed back to health- people suck! I would just make sure that the goat goes to a good home. Many animal rescue groups guarantee that they will. When an animal is adopted from there, they are adopted with a contract that says that the new owners cannot breed the animal, mistreat it, or re- sell it. I do hope that you find a way to keep it though, you sound like you really care for it. I hope everything works out OK, good luck!
