How can I get my dogs and cats to stop bringing live and dead birds into the house through the doggy door?
In the past week we've had about five dead birds and one live one brought in the house. I'm so tired of running from scared alive birds and cleaning up after dead ones. But I really don't want to lock my babies (two dogs and two cats) outside all day and I don't want them locked in at night or I'll just be cleaning up their accidents. Plus I know that some of my pets are more active in the bird hunting than others... Any advice is much appreciated!

- hahah thats so cuteeee
- those pets are bringing you a present and they think they are doing you a great service and showing you waht they have got. youcan't do that by not having them tdo this it would beak their hearts take care. and bear it
- eww tell it to someone else
- Put owl statues around your yard, and on your roof.
- Close up the doggy door and walk them when they need to go, let them in and out, thats what I do
- Put bells on your pets and maybe that'll scare the birds away before they can catch them. Don't feed the birds in your yard.
- Do the cats have collars? Most cat collars have bells attached so they are unable to sneak up on the birds, that may help somewhat.
- They are trying to get some attention, so I suggest that you just act disappointed when they do that. It could be an instinct that you can't rid of though! (never rid of the doggie!)
- Try looking up Operant Conditioning (it's a psychology term). It may help you find a way to discipline your pets in such a way that they learn that bringing "presents" into the house isn't good.
- Your pets are showing you their appreciation and love for you. The dead and almost dead animals are a gift to you. Like when you give them a special treat to show your love and appreciation when they have been extra good or a just because gift. I know it's a mess to clean and it is heart breaking to see a half dead bird. Welcome to the animal world.
- Get rid of the doggie door or put up with it.....pets are a responsibility and you know it..I'd have that door sealed in seconds and walk the dogs, put them out when I'm away..whatever...birds have bugs, fleas, yuck.....no way.....
- When the pets bring you dead animals it is a present. When your cat brings you a half dead animal or one that is quite lively, its an even greater sign of respect. They believe you are capable of handling the situation. As much as it bothers you that they are bringing you presents you have to understand that it's a sign of respect. As for them bringing them inside, block the doggy door, that way you can limit what they bring inside.
