Why is it that dogs are more loyal than cats to owners?
I have had many dogs and also many cats. Dogs will meet you at the door and want you to pet them and cats just seem to be distant for some reason

- Dogs come when you call, cats take a message and get back to you later. That is just the way they are. They are free spirits who insist on doing their own thing.
- dogs are pack animals and you- dog owner are either leader of the pack or part of the pack. Cats are more independent.
- cats are detached (more spiritual) but have you heard of the stories of cats who find their owner's when abandoned, hundreds of miles away?
- Dogs are pack animals and since you are the alpha in the pack then they all look up to you and love you. Cats are solitary animals and couldn't give a flying fig newton when you come home as long as they get fed and have a clean place to poop.
- felines (cats) are independants by nature, they may love u but they dont feel so connected to u, dogs are more attached to humans.
- BECAUSE CATS A SNEEKY CREATURES AND ARE NEVER GOING TO BE TRULY DOMESTOCAITED
- Cats just don't take any shit...
- Cats only love you for food, they like to do their own thing.
- dogs are more social
- cats have a more independent spirit. but i think cats can be loyal too, just on their terms lol.
- The difference is based on the history of the two animals. You have to realize that cats were not bred originally to be companions to humans, whereas dogs have been bred for centuries to aid humans...so it comes down to breeding history.
- Because cats are independent and dont give shit to their owners whereas dogs are very dependent on the ir owners...
- Cats are closer to wild animals then dogs and I beleive that dogs have been a domesticated breed for much longer than cats. You may find certain kinds of dogs are less "Loyal" just as there are certain breeds of cats that my be more affectionate and needy.
- Dogs are animals that live in packs in the wild, so you are the head of the pack to a dog. Not only do they need the food you provide, they need the companionship as well. Cats on the other hand are loners in the wild, and you are not needed but for food and litter needs. (ever notice they like you when hungry?) If they could hunt, you would be useless to them so they would not even bother with you or any other human. There are those of course that do like to give attention, but they are picky in who they choose to give it to.
- Cats, much like women, are very fickle, bitchy and complicated. Dogs, much like men, aren't too picky about who is paying attention to them, so long as someone is. Dogs are cuter too. ;)
- because felines are selfish creatures
- I dont think that its loyalty...dogs know you own them and cats know they own you, my cat is very loyal, I love all animals but cats are just smarter than dogs...sorry all you dog lovers
- A dog views his owner as a superior being - someone to obey and look up to. A cat views her "owner" as a peer, or an equal. She allows her 'owner' to continue to live with her, in exchange for delivery of food and loves. In all honesty, I think my cats truly believe that they are the bosses.
- To cats, humans are can openers. Cats own people, not the other way around. And cats too, and this is true, have a tendency to know who AREN'T cat people, and those are the very people they will go to. As long as you let the cats boss you around they will come to you.
- dogs, in my opinion need to much love. i like cats because you can leave your name and number and they will get back to you.
- It may appear dogs are more loyal but I don't think they are, I think cats are just as loyal but each in their own way. I have had both dogs and cats and personally I prefer cats because of their independent natures but they are extremely loyal and also protective of myself and my family. One thing about each, whether its a dog or cat their loyality only goes so far....if a new owner treats them well and shows them love then they will forget their old owner in a New York minute...so everyone be good to your furry friends.
- That's just how each was created/designed. If their were ever a time that each can be human...which breed do you think would survive longest, help one another, and have more family reunions,etc...
- dogs are more intelligent than cats, they like being loved and giving love to humans they can understand us better. a cat is very different, they are very strange, i don't like them very much , although i would not ever harm them, i say let the cat people have them and ill have the dogs.
- It depends on each animal. I've had lots of cats and dogs. Some were loyal and some weren't. All my dogs met me at the door, but it was usual because they wanted out. I once had a calico cat who was really shy and skiddish, she would never come out of her hiding spot. But whenever I was sick she was always laying right by my side and never left me. Because she knew.
- I will tell you the best. If you or a friend owns a dog or a cat why don't you go and ask it?
- Dogs are pack animals. They see dominance and socialization as a valuable thing to survive. It is part of their genetic code. Look at what happens when a few dogs get loose in your neighborhood at the same time what do they do? They form a pack. It has a lot to do with strength of numbers. Cats on the other hand are genetically, nocturnal. This means stealth is important to them when they hunt. Working in groups do not work with that kind of life style. Get a group of Cats at night, while on the hunt and they will get in each others way. Cats are just wired to be more solitary then Dogs. There are some pack cats however Lions for instance. But this is by far the exception and not the rule.
- ill explain, the dogs brain is more complexer than a cats. the dog has sort of you might say a memory card in its head its used to you seeing hearing your voice all the time. a cat on the other hand it usually like to be alone, because most cats sleep all day you usually don't see them very often witch means it really doesn't need to be as loyal P.D. I'm only 13 years old you should know this stuff
- because dogs have a brain large enough to comprehend things and cats do not
- Because cat think they own you!! Not the other way around!!
- Dogs live in structured groups called packs as for cats they live solitary lives an only offer you the minimum of affection for their meals or because they are bored. When you own a dog your in a "pack". And when you leave then come back then you are greeted as a returning member of the pack.
