How can I get my pitbull to stop being so aggressive to other male dogs in our home?

  1. Nothing..pitbulls are mean dogs. Maybe you should get rid of it.
  2. You can't make him stop being aggressive cuz that is there nature with other males, it is pecking order.................Who was there first, if they all grew up from babies together different story, but it sounds like you may have to totally detach your pit from everyone and all dogs, cuz it will get worse.
  3. A lot of reconditioning is needed. A LOT. Pitbulls are meant to fight with other dogs and will get that instinct if you did not train it out of them early on, so you need to completely resocialize him. Call in a professional. It IS possible to calm your dog down.
  4. You can't. It's a pit bull. Just be careful it doesn't kill anything or hurt anyone.
  5. I'm not a fan of shock collars but sometimes in training they can work very well. Also, try crating the dog when he getss agressive so he learns that he's not the alpha male. The last think I'll suggest is to get him obedience training or socialization classes.
  6. Have it neutered if not already--sounds like it had no training --find a good dependable trainer to help--don't understand why people get protection breed dogs and have no idea how to train or handle them!!
  7. Mommy of 2 obviously never owned one. They are terrific dogs when socialized and trained. I'm figuring that they are all fixed. If not... Take care of that first and foremost. We don't need anymore homeless pits. And if they are still in tact then it definitely wont stop. You need to figure out what exactly is setting him off. I need to know a little more about his history like have you always had him since he was a pup? and weather hes fixed or not? Has he been abused? Has he been attacked by your other dogs before? All of these could have an effect on him.
  8. How many dogs are in your home? How many males? How long have you had your Pit Bull? Pit Bulls tend to be animal aggressive unless they are socialized from puppyhood. Even then you have to supervise them in a group. Any breed dog that is male among males can have issues. I'd say separate your Pit from the others until you can get the help of a trainer who is familiar with that breed. It's a great breed for people, including children- generally speaking, though I wouldn't have any dog with aggression issues around children. A good trainer could evaluate your home situation, all dogs considered, and make recommendations of how to solve the problem. If you can't get a trainer, you might consider finding a good home or rescue org foster care and placement for your Pit Bull. My fear is, if you don't do this, then something bad could happen with your other dogs and I'd hate to see yet another story for the media to jump onto in their quest to spotlight and malign the breed.
