Can my PitBull Puppy grow up to kill my smaller dogs???
I just found a Pitbull Puppy, she must be around 3 months old only. I have been doing my best trying to find her owner, but so far no luck. I don't want to leave her in the pound either because I just want to make sure I know who the new owner will be. I am going to train her right, give her her shots and spay her and then will find her a new owner. But I am also considering just keeping her. The problem is that i have 2 small dogs and I wonder if the pitbull will ever get agressive to them to the point of killing them on a fight. One is a Female Maletese and the other one is a male Shith Tzu. I also have a Male German SHeperd but I don't think that would be a problem. I have heard many stories about pitbulls and I have been doing some research on line. But I am still not so sure about this breed. SHe is adorable and would love to keep her but it will break my heart if later on she ends up killing my other dogs. Please advise. Thanks Luana

- all the stories you have heard have been produced by the media. Half of the dogs I'm sure you have heard about were not even apbt./ They might have been staffies...or one of the other 25 breeds that people associated apbt with. If trained correctly the dog will not grow up to be aggressive.
- Yes he can. They grow up to kill children in their households. What makes you think they can't grow up to kill the other dogs. Will he? I don't know. It would be much more rare for him to hurt them rather than not hurt them. Statistics are on your side.
- If you train your dog properly there is no reason why it should attack if its taught not to
- If you introduce the pit bull pup to the existing dogs they'll get along fine. Problem occurs when you try and introduce new dogs to a grown pit bull that's already established it's territory.
- You are responsible for the nurturing of the animal. If you teach it to be a killer, it will kill. If you teach it to be a lover, it will love. That's the end of the story. BTW: There is a special place in hell for people who teach their dogs to fight and kill because you are turning love (literally) into hate with that action.
- That would have much to do with how you raised her - but remember that pit bulls have been bred specifically to be aggressive. If your other little dogs do something that annoys her once she is older (and much bigger) they could be at risk. The aggressiveness they have been bred for is what makes pit bulls scary. During some attacks the dogs owners have not been able to make the dogs listen to them at all as their nature takes over. If you have any doubts at all I would not bring a pit bull into a house with smaller dogs or with young children. They need a firm but loving person capable of keeping them in line while creating a good environment for them to live in.
- Yes, it's possible though no one has a crystal ball to tell you for sure. I would worry more when you find this pup as a stary- you have NO idea what lines, or what kind of household she's from- could be from aggressive parents bred for fighting, could be a sweet house dog- you just don't know.
- Can Pitbulls grow up to be killers? Well, sure, but so can people. I would be more worried of how a person may treat your dogs that a Pitbull that has been raised around them. It would maybe be a concern if the pitbull were raised incorrectly and not socialized with other dogs, but since the dog will be growing up witht the little guys, they pitbull will see them as family, not food. A properly raised Pitbull is no more aggressive than any other breed, including your little dogs.
- Well Pitbulls are dangerous animals witch you need to keep that in mind! My uncle dog was killed by two pitbulls roming around! She was sleeping and they drag her out! I have really never like pitbulls because they can turn on you very quickly because of their fighting nature! But training her not to be violent can help! Also keep in mind that if you have her somewere and she starts barking because of people it mean that it's dangerous! So becareful!
- I have a 15 pound Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua mix who can hold her ground with the Australian Shepherd, St. Bernard, German Shepherd, Weimereiner, Burmese Mountain Dog, Pit Bull, Boxer, Black Lab, Husky and many other big dogs she encounters when we visit our friends because all those dogs are good with other dogs. As long as you train your Pit Bull to not be aggressive than you shouldn't have a problem.
- Lets look at an analogy. Anything heavy and small can be a good paperweight. For instance, one of those tourist snow globs that you shake up and watch the snow would be good. A hand grenade is small and heavy, and would also work. However, pull the pin, and kaboom! Snow globs are by design, a better choice. Question, would you pick a Pekinese for protection? A Chihuahua? I wouldn’t – I would pick a German sheppard, as they were bred for it. A pit bull is bred to be aggressive, tenuous, and violent in order to bring down animals twenty times it size. Like the hand grenade paperweight, as long as nothing “pulls the pin” on the pit bull’s bred-in abilities, no problem. However, if something does go wrong, it can really go wrong. No matter what anyone says, the simple fact is Pekinese just don’t maul anyone, tear out their guts, or rip out their throats. And even if they are sometimes unjustly accused, the simple fact is that there are many cases – well documented- of pit bulls doing just that. Already owning a large dog with a reputation for biting, although usually justified, do you really want to own one with a reputation for unprovoked biting? You’re going way out on the responsibility limb! Loosing your sheppard may be the least of your worries – lawsuits and jail time, not to mention guilt, could haunt you a long time. Get a snow globe and a different breed. This appeared after I posted: Woman Attacked, Killed By Own Pit Bulls http://www.local6.com/news/14252837/detail.html?rss=orlpn&psp=news
- Your pits behaivor all depends on how you treat it an train it treat it right and it wont harm a soul
- I think if you raise her right, and raise her around the smaller dogs it should not be a problem. Pits get along better with dogs of the opposite sex. Make sure you train her to be obedient to you and listen to you. I have a Pit that lives in harmony with our other dog- a male border collie mix. He is smaller than her, but usually wins all the wrestling matches because he is the dominant dog. I had him first, and then adopted the pit as an adult dog. Not all Pits are vicious killers. It really DOES matter how you raise them
- if you raise her with the other dogs and do it right they will al be fine, a pit doesn't grow up with a good owner and just suddenly turn and start eating people and pets. It's just a big stigma stuck on pit bulls by people who don't know any better.
- Read UP on these dogs.. i did.. and they are my favorate breed..the pit bull represents america.. during the wars and stuff.. the pit bull used to be looked up to but now the media has given this dog a bad reputaion Pitt bulls are highly intelligent and only live to make YOU happy! they don't know what their doing is good or bad, but as long as he's pleasing YOU then they are happy dogs.. it's just messed up people take advantage of the dogs loyalty.. ... ANY DOG can kill another dog... BUT any DOG really can be the sweetest dog on the face of the earth.. just depends on how YOU raise it good luck- your lucky to have a pitt bull!! they are wonderful dogs just read up on them!!
