- VERY worried
- Are you in the UK? If so, get in touch with your local council straight away - don't take any chances with your children's safety.
- tell the neighbour politely that the fencing has to be changed to something more secure as you would hate to see their dogs destroyed because they accidentally got excited and bit you or your children. Then if they don't - get in contact with the council and dog catcher who will deal with them. Take photo's of the dogs in your yard but under NO circumstances try to get the dogs out on your own! Did you know they can be done under UK dog law for allowing the dogs onto land that they are legally NOT allowed to be on such as your private land?? I think it is £1000 fine! check the link below for a lot of vital information. Did you know: It is a criminal offence (for the owner and/or the person in charge of the dog) to allow a dog to be ‘dangerously out of control’ in a public place, a place where it is not permitted to be, and some other areas. A ‘dangerously out of control’ dog can be defined as a dog that has injured someone or a dog that a person has grounds for reasonable apprehension that it may do so. The KEY words here are "a person has grounds for reasonable apprehension that it may do so".....so if you are apprehensive or afraid in other words.....you have grounds!!! And if the dogs are escaping out of their property then again you have grounds to get those dogs taken away or destroyed!!!
- Pitbulls can be the sweetest dogs on earth if raised properly. I've seen many nastier Labs than I have seen mean pitbulls. However, speak with your neighbor to determine the temperament of the dogs if you'd like. If you don't wish to speak to your neighbor, you can call animal control and tell them that the neighbor's dogs keep getting into your yard, regardless of the breed. Even if it was a tiny yorkie, animal control would come pick it up because it's not legal to let your dogs roam around the neighborhood. Please don't frighten your children by telling them that pitbulls are mean and evil.
- NO, don't just get really worried, you have to keep in mind that it's how people treat the animal on how it reacts. If you neighbors are nice and all and take care of their pets well you shouldn't have to worry much. If you feel as though you can confront the neighbors, ask them if the could place their pets on a chain because they are frightening your children. If your neighbors are more hostile and you do not feel they treat their pets well then I would consider complaining about their pets being in your yard to animal control or whoever takes care of that issue.
- oh yeah! you should get a shot gun, buy one today.
- I do not know if you are in the UK, but if you are then you could report the animals to the police. Pitbulls are banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act here. If not, then I would suggest improving your fencing and, if you are on good terms with your neighbour, talking over your concerns with them.
- Discuss your concerns with your neighbor. Ask the owner if the dogs are friendly and if they are, ask to meet them. Pit bulls can be vicious dogs, however, they are not inherently bad dogs and most pit bulls are friendly. Pit bulls with responsible owners who properly train and socialize them are fantastic dogs. They get an undeserved bad rap in the media spotlight when in reality there are more dog bites inflicted by labradors each year than by pit bulls. Even so, your neighbor needs to respect property lines. Ask your neighbor to erect a proper fence or to use strong tie out leads when the dogs are in the backyard.
- Pitbull terriers are illegal in UK. Report their presence to the council. If the dogs stray into your garden report it to the council also because they then become "stray dogs" and they are illegal too. Don't put up with neighbours breaking the law.
- You can call Animal Control. If the dogs are not chained and are getting into your yard it is a danger no matter what kind of dogs they are.In some communities pit bulls are not allowed check .I don't feel we should condemn a dog just because of there breed. But unfortunately that breed has a bad rep.And it is better to be safe then sorry
- I would be very worried. With the amount of stories I have read in the news involving pitbulls I think that your concern is very understandable and valid. They may seem fine now but they are animals of a more aggressive nature. My neighbor also has a pitbull and although he is a very nice man and his dog seems to be completely under control and always stays in his yard, I will not go outside with my dog if they are out. And if I had any I would also not let my children out either. It's always best to just play it safe!
- I would be VERY concerned. The fact that they are getting into your garden shows that the wire fencing is not controlling their movements. And now that they have motive to invade your property (your garden), your children will only provide further incentive. I would strongly urge you to contact your local animal control personnel and/or the police. If you are inclined to, I would also strongly suggest buying a gun and learn how to use it effectively, your and your children's continued safety may well depend on your ability and willingness to kill the dogs quickly and without hesitation.
- Really, really, really worried. I know some people say they are great with children, but I also know one person who thought that - until his 18 month girl tripped and fell on their 'wouldn't hurt a flea' pit. Her face required over 350 stitches and she has permanent scarring.
- Not all Pitbulls are bad news, it depends on the way they are raised and the temperaments of the parents. I would not however leave a child alone with any dog. I advise that you have a friendly word with your neighbour and explain your concerns. It may be an idea that you both contribute to a fence which is acceptable to both parties. It is not in anyone's interest to have conflict on their own doorstep therefore i advise a solution to the problem try to be reached by negotiation and understanding of each other needs. Failure to reach an amicable solution would then raise the need for the intervention of another party i.e local council, police re: dangerous dogs act etc.
- By your spelling, I'm guessing that you're in the UK. Pit Bulls are actually ILLEGAL in the UK, and as such the police would be very happy to hear about them, especially given the case of little Ellie Lawrenceson last New Year's Day.
- your neighbours by law have to control there dogs if they are getting in your garden they are not control i would talk to your neighbours tell them you are worried for your children safety and ask if they would put up a fench tell them the dogs get in your garden i would
- If you are in the UK, then please report these dogs to the police if they are pit bull type dogs. They are illegal and dangerous.
- While pitbulls have a nasty reputation, they are not always bad dogs. Uneducated people may think that they are always aggressive, but this isn't true. They are no more dangerous than most other large dogs, except in rare cases. If your neighbors are decent people who have raised the two dogs in a loving environment, then you shouldn't have much to worry about. Just make sure that you are watching the kids, especially if they are very young. Its not a good idea to leave young kids with any large dog unless you know the dog well enough to know that it is harmless. Dogs will only attack if they are scared, over-protective, or have been trained to fight. In the US and most other countries, they are not illegal. The only reason people think that they are mean dogs is because they have a reputation for being used cruelly in illegal dog fights. They were bred to fight throughout history, so they are also known for a powerful bite and for not letting go. They can also be quite protective of their territory. But again, this is only in the case of a few dogs who have most likely been severely mistreated. Basically, you shouldn't let your kids play outside with any dogs you dont know, but I assure you that these dogs are not out to harm anyone. You should talk to your neighbors and work something out with them.
- Under UK legislation, Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, prohibits four types of dog, including the Pit Bull Terrier. It is an offence to own or keep this type of dog, unless it is on the Index of Exempted Dogs and is in compliance with the requirements. The Dangerous Dogs (Amendment) Act 1997 gave the courts discretion on sentencing whether prohibited types of dog should be destroyed. It also re-opened the Index of Exempted Dogs, for those prohibited dogs which the courts consider would not pose a risk to the public. Only courts can direct that a dog can be placed on the list of exempted dogs. Whilst I agree that the temperament of a dog has a lot to do with it's owner and how they treat them, nevertheless, these dogs are getting into your garden. Perhaps you can speak with your neighbour and explain your concerns about your children' safety. If they are responsible people, their dogs will be registered on the Exempt List. Hopefully they will understand your fears and will make every effort to keep their dogs under control. However, if your neighbour totally dismisses your concerns or refuses to keep his dogs under strict control, then report him to the police, as chances are, he's keeping the dogs illegally. Good luck.
- Pitbull terriers are a banned breed. You should warn your neighbour that the dogs are causing nuisance. And if the nuisance continues, then you are within your rights to inform the RSPCA and the police.
- Report them to the police
