Do yot think small dogs do not deserve thir reputation?
Most people decide to spoil their small dogs and do not train and socialize them enough causing them to be aggressive and loud. Why do they do this? It does not make them happier because of the lack of socialization they get scared and jumpy.

- pet owners need to be more responcible
- I know small dogs can be the most aggressive, problem is when a little dog attacks you nothing happens, but when a great dane attacks you that's a different thing entirely. I heard a story about a pomeranian that killed a child a while back...of course that story didn't make the front page, but the millions of mistakenly identified dogs labeled as pit bulls did...
- I couldn't agree with you more. I have 2 small dogs and I train them as if they are big dogs. All dogs need the same training. People are irresponsible and lazy when they treat their small dogs like babies. It makes the dogs neurotic.
- My chiahuahua has a family reputation everybody talks about her as if she was a person. I even took her to Thanksgiving once with her suade coat. she has a black mink just like my aunt but hers is fuax shes wearing that this year.
- yES, MORE PEOPLE HAVE TO TAKE THE TIME TO SOCIALIZE THEIR DOGS NO MATTE WHAT SIZE. aND WALK THEM MORE TOO. dOGS CAN GO CRAZY IF THEYRE NOT WALKED FREQUENTLY. My small dogs are great. I walk them everywher without a leash on sidewalks 2 miles a day and people are AMAZED. They stay right with me and wait at the corner for me. Small dogs are the best. . http://news.google.com/news?client=opera&rls=en&q=pitbull+attack&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wn
- Maybe because they fail to realize that small dogs need the same training and socialization as large dogs. As Okyrah noted, if a small dog attacks someone, it doesn't make the news. I know someone that owns a moblie grooming service, and she says she has been bitten by terriers more than any other kind of dog. She'd rather work on a big dog any day.
- I do not think most small dogs deserve their reputation. I think alot of small dog owners deserve theirs. I was in a Petsmart one day, and a lady had a very small dachshund in the top of her cart. As I went by her, the dog lunged at me with all teeth out and a ferocious growl. Her comment to me was that he was still a puppy and I shouldn't pay attention to that. I asked her how old he was and she said he was 2. I have a friend with a pomeranian who has become the terror of the neighborhood. She lives in a condo, and every one of her neighbors know this dog because they can see how awful he is on walks, and he psycho-barks non-stop at the window all day while she is at work. Small dogs need just as much training as any dog, and to treat them like something other than dogs is just ridiculous. I love all of my dogs, but no one gets away with anything, not even the littlest one.
- I couldn't agree with you more. But it is not the dog's fault. I've seen chi's etc go really well in agillity and mini poodles do well in flyball, they are not aggressive, they are well adjusted and well trained. it is the idiot owners who humanise their dogs and don't expose them to the world and then wonder why when their dogs don't cope who are to blame. Imagine if Border Collie owners (like me) thought it were funny when their dog barked and carried on at another dog or decided to have a nip at someone's heels......worse still in a bigger dog. Just because a dog is small it is not an excuse to treat it any differently to any other dog.
- My two small dogs are the best ever, totally sweet and complete babies! They don't like strangers to touch them which is fine by me because in all honesty I don't want just anyone messing with them. They know when to behave the vet even says they are the sweetest of the dogs that he sees in his office.
- There are alot of unruly little dogs. They're tiny and always have that puppy look, so owners let them get away with murder. That's definately the major cause of the rep. Some are just so tiny or have been accidently hurt before and react in fear because of it. Imagine being 4 lbs. with a 6 foot person standing over you- kinda scary. I spoil my little dog rotten, but I also trained and socialized her well. I agree that they are unhappy without those two things in their lives. I just don't think that you can't have a well behaved dog that's well adjusted and spoiled.
