- get a jack russel they are feisty little rascals...need major amounts of exercise and have tons of energy...
- goldens are friendly and loving dogs... any friendly and personable dog should be ok... try your local shelter, with a dog that has been temperment tested- that way, you can get a great dog, save a life, not spend so much, and know already that this dog will get along with yours. good luck!
- Try adopting from a shelter, you can take the dog outside to meet with yours and see how they react together. Before you actually take the dog into your house have them put something of yours where he sleeps and then take the object to your place so that your dogs can smell it too and get used to the smell of the new dog. Good luck!

- Take your dogs along to a local shelter, and have a meet'n'sniff with some of the small dogs there. Talk to the staff about your situation, and ask them to recommend which small dogs they think would be suitable for your home. You may find a smaller dog that is already very comfortable around large dogs, and that your dogs like as well. You won't be paying outrageous prices for a purebred, and you'll be making an abandoned dog very happy. Make sure your dogs are up-to-date with all their vaccinations before you take them along to the shelter, though, and perhaps ring in advance to let the staff know you'll be coming down. Good luck.
- chihuahuas, they dont cost much, and they get along great with big dogs. we have a border collie, blue heeler, beagle and mutt, all big and for my birthday i got a chihuahua puppy. i introduced them right away and acted like they had known each other for years. so cute! goldens are very smart and know how to be gentle. i think you would be very pleased with a chihuahua. any terrier breed is great too, lots of spunk
- Try going to your local shelter to find a small dog that will suit being with your retrievers. Retrievers are pretty kind animals and laid back, so whatever you choose should work. Consider rescuing a shelter dog!
- So....would a $400 dollar dog be out of the question? That extra dollar is the straw that breaks the camels back? :) I'm kidding :)- just keep in mind if you adopt from a shelter or rescue, adoption fees are very reasonable. Anywhere from under $100 to around $300- but rarely any higher. And you can find puppies and adults of virtually ANY breed. Like others said, most Terriers are rough-and-tumble dogs that think they're 10 feet tall and can handle anything. Beagles are pretty sturdy, so are Pugs. Dachshunds can handle themselves around larger dogs- but if your Goldens are given to rough play, it might not be a good choice since they are prone to back injuries. If you're looking for toy-breed size- Min Pins think they're Great Danes and are pretty sturdy for a toy breed. Chihuahuas, as long as you don't go for one of the super-tiny ones, often coexist fine with bigger dogs and tend to rule with an iron fist! There is a Bichon Frise that plays at a dog park I used to frequent, and he plays in the big dog side; loving every minute of it and never having a problem being bowled over.
- Get one that fits YOUR lifestyle.:0) Try the breed selector quiz and see what breed(s) show up that are right for you. http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/dogselector.do When you find out what breed that is, try these places to find one in your area that needs a new home. :0) http://www.1-800-save-a-pet.com/cgi-bin/public/petsearch.cgi/search_dogs_form http://www.petharbor.com/ http://www.petfinder.com/ http://www.craigslist.org/about/cities.html Adoption fees are not expensive
- I have a story and there is a point Today i found to lost dogs a Golden Retriever and a Chihuahua they were a family that were good with each other. So what i am saying is adopt from a rescue and look at there history with bigger dogs ask the rescue if you can bring in your dogs and see how they all react with each other. I hope i helped. - Owner 2 A german shepherd, Pug, and a old Cocker Spaniel.
- Hi, It depends on what type of larger dogs you've got and what type of lifestyle you live. Without knowing that information your best bet would be to visit the animal shelter with your dog(s) and visit, play, walk! Most bichon-frisse type dogs work well with other dogs. Good luck in your search.
