Boxer Dogs. Should I get a Male or Female?

Hello, Im getting a Boxer dog soon. I was just wondering what would be a wiser choice, a male or a female? Ive had male dogs all my life, so it only seemed natural to get a male. But after doing some research and learning that they can be quite a handful if not nuetred so im kind of confused as nuetering isnt an option. (think its cruel) Its not that id never nueter the dog .. i just wouldnt untill it was nesecary! If it needed spaying or nuetering for health reasons i wouldnt hesitate in doing so. I dont believe that my dogs balls should be cut off just "incase" . THats like women cuttng their breats off to prevent breat cancer. Yes i want a lively dog. if i didnt id have gone for a Pointer as you said. And seeing i own 2 English Setters already i am familiar with that kind of temerment and want something different.

  1. Go with a female... you can have puppies...
  2. Male, Keep The Tradition
  3. get a girl I had one once and she never had any problems with the other dogs in my neighborhood.
  4. female's are soooo much better!
  5. Females are much 'cleaner' than males.
  6. female, males run way.... most of the time. but then if the female has a puppy she acts like a b!tch when there born. so... ur decision
  7. idk y but i think it would be better to get a male i have always wanted to female dog too.... but for this kind of dog it would seem that the male would be a better dog! ; )
  8. I've had both male and female boxers out of the two I liked the female because it more so that the male chewed up our house but its up to you!
  9. Get one of each - the more the merrier! (Sorry, I'm a dog lover, and one can sometimes never have too many - LOL) Seriously, before you get one (or two), perhaps you should rethink your ideas on neutering your pet. I've also heard it helps them to live longer, and perhaps they would be less of a handful afterwards. It seems cruel, yes, but there are already far too many dogs, etc. in shelters going unadopted, and what happens to those unwanted pets is far more cruel than what is probably a simple, safe operation. Just my two cents - I'm glad you're trying to find ways to avoid being cruel, though. It shows you want to be a responsible pet owner. : D
  10. they are very hyper dogs, need constant stimulation, are you always at work, out or are there children to play with the dog? if not you may get really mad when he starts chewing on stuff. you might consider getting two, one male, one female...and unless you intend to breed the animal have them fixed. the female will be the alpha dog. They will entertain each other and be less destrutive. Do not under any circumstances get two females---they will fight for dominance and you will have to put them down...
  11. I have a 9yr old boxer bitch,my sister had 2 boxer dogs in this time both lovely but little sods,Boxers can be a right handfull anyway but at least you could have a litter of pups with a bitch it calmed mine down!! good luck.
  12. Well being that you are a female I would recommend that you get a male. I never get along as well with dogs as bitches but have found that women always tend to get along better with dogs and men tend to get along better with bitches. Neutering isn't cruel and in fact can prevent many problems, (testicular cancer, prostate cancer, and twisted testicular cord). Plus it prevents your dog from being overly dominant and producing hundreds of unwanted puppies. If you get a female you should have her spayed because you will prevent uterine, ovarian, and vaginal cancer as well as prevent her from accidental insemination (and adding to the 10 million dogs killed each year because of lack of homes).
  13. both are really good dogs. i have 2 females and i love them to death!! my friend has 2 males. the males seem to be a little bit more hyper, but all dog are when there young. males do mark their territory if there not fixed, so you might want to do that.lol
  14. for protection i advise getting a male females you have to deal with their periods and all that mess
  15. get the female
  16. neutering is not cruel! I prefer male big dogs and female small ones
  17. i was always a female cat lover. i'm a girl. we got a boy by chance really and i freakin' LOVE this boy. he is crazy protective of me though. i don't think he'll hurt anyone/anything but it can be scary. just loud and growly around certain people. we neutered him @4 mos also. and even so he is very alpha, with all dogs. i wish he was more passive. they do have boundless amounts of energy and need lots and lots of love and attention. and hours of exercise a day. my boxer has had ridiculous health problems and is under 2yrs. i would suggest a mixbreed with boxer in it. just because their immune system is much better. i'm not a breeder, or a vet... i just know it pains me that my baby has had so many sicknesses so young. BUT I LOVE HIM and now have a boxer bias.. from what i have been told neutering helps a lot and for many different reasons. i know when i go to the dog park and a dog comes in that isn't neutered there is usually a lot of dog fighting and up in arms owners. good luck!!!
  18. Either sex...Boxers are good dogs!
  19. My prefernce for dogs has always been female. If you get a boxer do you intend to breed? becuase if not the best thing to do is get them fixed. Male dogs will run off and constantly be after females, and females when in heat can be a bit messy. And imagine knowing you need to breed and not being able to get to a male!
  20. i would have to say a male, unless you want to breed a female but you have to becareful when she is on heat, could you clean up her periods.
  21. Oh dear. The problem is that your attitude to neutering and spaying will put a females life at risk. So it would be better to stick with a male. Females that never breed have a higher risk of a potentially fatal condition called 'pyometra'; its a womb infection. If you catch it in time you'll be forced to spay to save your dogs life. Females have the advantage that they only think about sex when they are on heat; with male dogs they think about it whenever. Boxers are a lively breed whether male or female, if you prefer a more placid dog then get another breed. What about one of the Pointers instead? The English tends to be more of a laid back adult.
  22. i have a mixed pitbull / boxer female.. she is very protective and after 2 litters.. more family related.. to myself and my 2 older sons.. i would suggest a female to have at home.
  23. male, or female just spay her if u don want puppies
