Do Boxer dogs have unpredictable temperaments?
I am really keen to get a Boxer I know that they are very energetic pets and need a lot of care and attention. However, a few people have told me that they are prone to madness and are quite hard animals to care for. is this true??

- no way they are very loving and loyal dogs they can be protective of there family but i have had two of them and they are great dogs very smart also...
- We had two, and they were two of the best, most even-tempered dogs we ever had. That's the reason we were partial to boxers. They were very easy to care for, and the first one we got from a shelter.
- the lunatic asylum is full of them....
- They only ahve That if you are Super mean to them. Then they learn its a Dog eat dog world and turn on you and everything they know.
- Not even remotely! Don't listen to the ramblings of morons.
- Someone has lied to you my friend. Boxers are the most loyal, loving creatures our creator graced this earth with. They are very VERY energetic and do require attention, as all animals do. Their personality's just cry out-love me-pay attention to me! Try a Boxer rescue for a quality dog. These dogs are screened for aggressions, up to date on shots, heart worm tested and usually spayed/neutered. I, personally am on my 6Th boxer and ready to foster one from a rescue till she is ready for my mom. Best of luck to you in your choice.
- We used to have a boxer unfortunatly he died age 9years .You couldn't have had a more docile dog .Every one ive known have the same feelings for there boxer dog I still have my boxers ashes after 13 years .I can still remember his lovely ness .
- There seem to be quite alot who are agressive towards other dogs. I used to want one but the breeders in this area are breeding really nasty dogs. May be different in other areas.
- No. Boxers are really friendly, loyal dogs. They are very energetic. I have to say boxers Love all the attention they can get. But anyway boxers are great dogs! If boxers weren't kind and friendly then they probably wouldnt be used for guide dogs ( that was there original purpose ). I had 2 boxers so TURST me on this. Boxers can seem very aggresive but, they aren't. Be sure if you get a boxer to do some research on the Web if I didnt quite answer your question, but i hope i did because i love to help. Hey One more thing.......boxers are very good natured, the ONLY time a boxer would get aggresive IS IF YOU TRAIN THE DOG TO BE THAT WAY. Boxers are good with little kids and other pets also. The boxer i had lived to be 13 years old she died last march in 06.
- only if you buy it from a so called breader who has bread it to closely (mother and father ..brother and sister) but gererally its the owners who are unpredictable and need rained on how to train a dog
- boxer dogs are the most loyal, friendly loveable dogs you could ever have.we had one for 7 yrs ,she was great with children & showed us so much love.it was heartbraking when she died. they are energetic but if you give them a couple of good walks a day ,and some stimulation they are the perfect pet
- Yes, this is true my partner used to have a Boxer and he says that they need a lot of loving, a lot of attention and a lot of exercise and can be temperamental but not a dog to have if it's going to be left on it's own all day but they can be loving too.
- unpredictable temperament would come from bad breeding, mistreating,, etc.. do your homework and find a reputable breeder,,, you will want to see both parents,, health certificates etc. etc.. try akc.org for breeder referrals,,,,,,, a properly bred, properly raised, healthy boxer is a great dog... good luck
- Did somebody pull one over on you or what . . . I have had four Boxers, and I have closely worked with atleast six others as well as socialized with a great number of them. They do NOT have unpredictable temperment. When I look at one of my Boxers, I know exactly what they're thinking and how they're planning to pull it off. However, they CAN be difficult to take care of if you don't know what you're getting into. These dogs require a high amount of mental stimulation and a creative owner & trainer. If they get bored, say goodbye to your lovely looking home. They are stubborn and independent, and like to do things their way. From experince, you can begin to tell by their body and facial language what's coming next. However, aside from that: They're perfectly happy to naw on some bone while you go lolly-gagging. They're not needy dogs. Give them a medium-high diet of exercise, creative mental stimulation, a half-hour of cuddle every night and they're happy as a clam. This breed is actually low maintence when compared to others. But for God's sake - do thorough research to make sure this is the dog breed for you. Personally, I love this breed to death and back. But they do not fit well with everyone.
- i no sum 1 who has a boxer they have 3 kids dat pull out of it, drag out of it and the boxer takes it in its stride. from what i see they do not look like a dog that is hard to care for.sometimes she likes to run a bit mad but wat dog doesn't?
- If you buy a Boxer from a reputable breeder you should have no problems. Yes there are Boxers with poor temperaments, same as any other breed but if you do your research you should find a typical Boxer with an equable temperament.
- all dogs can if not trained properly
- Nope they can be hard to train as they are so boisterous but if you persevere they are loyal and obedient dogs. They were originally bred for army work where obedience was essential!
- Boxers are very lively and will need alot of walking! As for umpredictable temperaments? You could think that about any dog! A dog is what you make it! If you socialise it well and have firm training in place from the beginning , you should have no problems! They are a great pet and give you so much fun and great for all tha family! All I would say is if you have any small children , they are lively and can be abit clumsy when running around , they wont mean to hurt, but they could nock them over qyite easy! But like I said if you train your dog well i.e not to run around the house, you will be fine!!!!!! Go for !!!!!
- no way - my mother in law used to breed and show boxers and had loads living in her house all in harmony! they are good dogs like all other dogs they are how you bring them up!
- some do and some dont
- my sister has a boxer she is full of life very giddy and a bit nuts.
- We have had 2 boxer dogs and god knows how many other different breeds of dogs, but the boxers have by far been the best dogs ever.
- they do take a while to grow up, they seem to think they are still puppies when they are 4 yrs old, and they bound around they dont seem to be able to walk anywhere they hop and bound about until they mature, they are not nasty dogs they are way too immature to be nasty so hjowever unpredictable they are you know for certain they will not attack you, i will advise you one thing when getting a boxer puppy try and get an older (6 mnths plus) as some boxers are prone to genetic collagen problems that do not show in the parents and dont show in the pup until they are heavy enough, it causes bandy legs , on hock walking very weak and deformed looking legs so good luck a boxer is a great dog (also a similar condition can occur if their food is not upto scratch i fed my boxer puppy purina iams apparently it wasnt good enough i had to change to aucachy(not sure how its spelt) ask your vet for advice on feeding your pup)
